Oh, by the way: July 10, 2009

Here's some of the other stuff that happened in the wide world of mobile for Friday, July 10th, 2009:

AT&T now offering refurbished 16GB iPhone for $149

It's always nice to see an already decent deal sweetened -- which is just what's happening over at AT&T these days. The company is now offering refurbished models of the 16GB iPhone 3G for $149 with a new two-year contract. That's $50 less than the previous price, so head over and save yourself a few bucks if you're so inclined. The 8GB refurb is still on offer at $99 with a two-year contract. It looks like the deals only apply to the black models, so you'll have to cough up full price ($299 and $199, respectively) for a new one if only white will do.

Refurbished BlackBerry Bold free-on-contract at AT&T (today, anyway)

Not digging that $299.99 on contract pricing for RIM's BlackBerry Bold? If you're kosher with placing previously loved gadgets in your presence, you can score one today for the low, low price of absolutely free. Apparently the deal is only valid on AT&T's website and only for today, so you might want to pull the trigger now and think about it later.

Best Buy now selling refurbed iPhone 3Gs

You know what's awesome about used phones? They're usually cheaper than new ones. Like that time AT&T started selling refurbished iPhone 3Gs for $50 off (even $100 off), fr'instance. Best Buy's getting on the action now, too, hawking the reconditioned 8 giggers for $149 and the 16GB models for $249 on contract at 350 of its Best Buy Mobile locations nationwide. Since AT&T's pushing these for the same price directly, wouldn't Equivalent Buy be a better name for this joint?

AT&T letting go of 8GB refurb iPhone 3Gs for $99 on contract

Ha, you or someone you love just paid full retail for an iPhone 3G a few days ago, didn't you? We've always heard that the best deals come after Christmas, but people just never learn. All smack talk aside, those who didn't get a new cellie under the tree, but did acquire a Benjamin or so courtesy of cash-stuffed holiday cards, can certainly score a big deal today. AT&T is now offering the 8GB iPhone 3G in refurbished form for just $99 with a two-year agreement, while the 16GB refurb is $199 on contract in either black or white. Call us crazy, but we don't foresee these hanging around in stock for too awfully long.

Crazy AT&T gets $150 refurb'd iPhone 3G in stock, will club a baby seal if you don't buy one

If Walmart's $197 iPhone 3G had you salivating, wait until you get ahold of this deal: AT&T has refurbished iPhone 3Gs in stock for a mere $150, effectively doubling your rice and ramen budget for the month should you take the plunge. AT&T claims the refurbs were returned within the 30 day trial period, are quality tested, and might be just a little scuffed up. If you're really feeling wild, there's also a 16GB refurb available for $250. Apple and AT&T are being a little shady on the warranty, stating "90 days or more," as opposed to the standard one year, but that's a risk you and your growling stomach are just going to have to take.

Cheapo refurbished iPhones for sale online from AT&T

Remember those dirt-cheap refurbished iPhones we mentioned you could snag in-store? Well it looks like AT&T has decided to share the bounty with the public at large, and has begun taking orders for the $249 8GB models online. If you've been on the fence, here's your chance to get in for $150 less than retail (and sadly for you early adopters, a whopping $350 tumble in price). In our experience, you can grab one in person with no activation, though it looks like you'll have to sign on the dotted line to have it delivered.

Update: According to our commenters, you can get these mailed to you activation / contract free.

Select AT&T stores selling refurbished iPhones?

Oh sure, Apple's been offering up a couple of refurbished iPhones on its own web store for some time now, but actually finding one in stock has proven to be quite a challenge. Nevertheless, a purported internal memo has explained that select AT&T stores in the New England region (sorry, rest of the solar system) will be stocking refurbished iPhones for $199 (4GB) and $249 (8GB) -- of course, the deal only applies to new activations. Has anyone actually seen this go down first hand? We wonder how quickly it'll be before this offer bleeds out from the Northeast.

Apple trots out refurb iPhones, $100 off list price

If you want to run the risk of getting stuck with the iPhone we sent back because the proximity sensor crapped out (that's another story for another time), get ready to grab yourself a deal. Refurbished iPhones now look to be in stock at the online Apple Store, the supposed result of a nice, stiff mix of iReturners and busted devices. Both the 4GB and 8GB refurb units are being offered at $100 off -- $399 and $499, respectively -- making the 4GB model the slightly better value at a full 20 percent off its MSRP. Not a bad discount, as long as they got around to fixing that bum sensor.

Liquid damage indicators are two-faced?

Chances are that one time or another, you had to bring our phone in for repair only to be frustrated and aggravated when you're told that your phone has moisture damage. As you attempt to argue that you've never gotten your phone wet, you get pushback from the local technician because the litmus paper on the back of your phone is never wrong. Hopefully you are fortunate enough to have insurance (and you're lucky if you don't get a refurb). Now how many of you can honestly say you've had this problem and you really didn't get the phone wet?
