Pharos Traveller 137 now available, can use both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G

We're not sure what kind of wilded-out party people need a single phone that can use both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G in the States, but your dreams have finally come true: the Pharos Traveller 137 is finally available. Hope you like Windows Mobile 6.1, cause that's what you're getting for your $350 on two-year T-Mo contract or $600 unlocked. Expensive, yes, but you're basically getting every feature you can think of and Pharos says the 137 is WinMo 6.5-ready, so there's an upgrade path here -- too bad no firmware will ever make that resistive touchscreen feel good.

Pharos' Traveller 137 is at CES and as far as well packed Windows Mobile sets go, it is pretty much at the top of the heap. We won't bore you with the specs again, but if there's anything you want in a phone, it's likely already in there. 3.5's the magic number with Pharos' new Windows Mobile-based offering: 3.5-inch display -- wide VGA, no less -- and 3.5G data. The Traveler 137 rolls deep with the best HTC has to offer (owing in no small part to their ODM partnership with Inventec, we figure) with 512MB of Flash, 256MB of RAM, AGPS, 7.2Mbps HSPA on T-Mobile USA (seriously!) and European bands, WiFi, 3-megapixel cam, and the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. Kinda sounds like a keyboardless X1, doesn't it? Look for it to hit retailers this quarter for a nickel under $600.

Can't say it looks like anything special, but Pharos has launched its latest Traveler courtesy of Dell. The GPS-enabled Traveler 619 boasts a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel camera, 3.5G support, a quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE radio, Windows Mobile 6, Bluetooth / WiFi, IrDA and a battery good for four hours of yappin'. Order now for a buck ninety-nine and it should be under the tree in plenty of time.

Pharos' Traveller 117 and 127 WinMo phones show up courtesy of Dell

Pharos' line of GPS-equipped Windows Mobile handsets has sort of lost its place in our hearts now that seemingly every phone under the sun -- smartphone or otherwise -- comes equipped with wicked advanced AGPS out of the box, but the company's latest pair actually looks competitive for reasons that have nothing to do with GPS whatsoever. Sure, GPS is nice, but the Traveller 117 and 127 really rock on account of tri-band 7.2Mbps downstream HSPA, and in the case of the 117, a VGA display. They've also got 2-megapixel primary and VGA front-facing cames, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and covert semi-official launches courtesy of Dell's online store. What more could you ask for?

HTC Pharos, Greek for "next, please"

Our eyes! This fat little guy, bearing a face only a mother could love, is said to be the HTC "Pharos" (no, not that Pharos) with a date with destiny as early as March, making a CeBIT announcement a distinct possibility. It'll apparently go by the name P3470 in HTC's lineup, clearly shoring up the very, very low end of the company's line with a mere 200MHz TI OMAP850 core, 256MB of ROM and 128MB of RAM, Bluetooth, integrated GPS, and a 2 megapixel camera -- not terrible specs, we suppose, until you take a good, hard gaze at the darned thing. No word on whether it'll be crossing the pond, but we're not going to get too caught up on that one.

T-Mobile offering discounts on Pharos GPS Phone 600 / 600e

Sure, it's not like the GPS Phone is fresh on the block or anything, but those frightened by the pricetag may be able to inch closer to snagging one thanks to a new deal with T-Mobile. Reportedly, those looking to grab Pharos' GPS Phone 600 or 600e can now purchase one with "up to $200 off" so long as you ink your name to a two-year agreement. Of course, those opting for the 600e won't be blessed with the Ostia navigation software, but you can purchase the handset for as low as $399.99 if you agree to a voice and data package, while the map-equipped 600 will run you $499.99 with the same plan. Shave a little ugly off of it, and we'd be sold.

Pharos GPS Phones released for sale

Almost three months after announcing the Pharos GPS phone, the handset has officially been released for sale as of this week. Two versions will be available now (as expected) with the 600 model selling for $699.95 and the 600E going for $599.95. The 600E lacks the complete maps of North America and the Ostia navigation package from Pharos itself for $100 less. Both handsets, of course, come with the SiRFstar III GPS chip and WM5, WiFi and all other normally brandished smartphone goodies like Bluetooth and a 2 megapixel cam. Now that this beast is upon us at the $700 and $600 price tags, will you bite? That's quite a bit steep for a phone without 3G support, but if you're, umm, really chomping at the bit for a $700 GPS phone by a new manufacturer, here's your next phone.

Pharos announces GPS Phone -- no really, that's the name

Pharos, another up and coming gadget company has taken the next step for its GPS device lineup by jumping into the phone space, and rebadging that ETEN device (you know, the much discussed X500 glofiish, aka OX500). Dubbed GPS Phone (we really think calling it The GPS Phone would be much more potent), it's got all the specs we knew this phone was packing, including: SiRFStarIII GPS receiver (duh) with Pharos Ostia nav software, quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE (sigh), WiFi, Bluetooth, a 2 megapixel camera, FM radio (o rly!), and a friggin fat $699 price tag. Now, we're not necessarily saying $700 for a GPS-equipped Pocket PC is too much, but we really do wish they could have shaved $5 off the top of that margin and dropped in a damned UMTS / HSDPA radio, you know? Ah well, SIM unlocked and yours come February.
