Palm demos web-based Ares SDK for webOS {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 10:22PM As per@Christian Walters: A little sleuthing finds the following: "....TechCrunch was at the event and reports that Palm is amending the developer agreement to allow for distribution outside of the App Catalog." It goes on to say "“Developers can simply submit their apps to Palm, and Palm will return them to a URL that they can then blog, tweet, do whatever they want to share it. When a person the clicks the URL they can easily install the app. And while Palm is providing the URL, it is not going to be reviewing the apps in any way.” This trends much more towards the Android side of app reviews (where they perform an automated test for stability, they don’t check for “appropriateness”)."

So, indeed one can have their cupcake and eat it too.

Palm Pre data tethering is a go, Sprint be damned {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 15th 2009 4:41PM @thescrooge: I believe you get a $10 discount for an aircard if you also have a phone with sprint. I don't understand why non of the carriers give a better discount, but this is surely going to hurt the homebrew world if sprint gets pissed (for lack of a better word). I liked it back in the day when I had a $40 Phone as Modem plan that let me tether AND get internet access on my phone. This made sense. (I used to pay $35 base + $40 internet). Now it's set up completely opposite. You don't have that option but while losing PAM connectivity, I get sprint navigation, limited sprint tv and sprint radio, unlimited texts and MMS.

Is navigation, text, and mms worth $50 it costs for an aircard plan? no, but maybe $20 - $30 for unlimited PAM is a reasonable value. Still, I think $5 to have to option to have PAM connectvitiy up 500 mb (1gb may be pushing it) would probably be reasonable. the idea is for people like me who may use it in "emergencies" or when truly necessary. Really, a sliding scale makes the most sense, but if water and power utilities have trouble explaining this to customers, I highly doubt a cell phone company can.

May 13th 2008 11:51PM I hate it when people abuse the SERO.
It does not help a sinking ship to bleed it dry.
I don't care if only a handful of people do it.
On principle, less money to them = worse infrastructure, worse CS.

Dell's Latitude XT up close -- a bit too close {Engadget}

Oct 14th 2007 11:05PM I've calibrated the picture to my LAN port, and it comes out to about 1.15 inches thick.

This is a real bummer. I thought this would be less than an inch thick.

In response to someone else's comment, there will be a switch to use this in either touch or traditional penabled mode (just not simultaneously).

This thing definitely looks like a hunk....Someone should have a "how would you design this dell" contest. yikes
