On the first night of Christmas, my true love game to me - free game apps {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Dec 1st 2009 7:42PM Bravo, love the idea - sorry for probably contributing to your server crash, I sent the link to a lot of friends as well. :-)
Dare to be Creative announces Parachute backup utility for Mac OS X {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Nov 25th 2009 12:27PM Ugh, why didn't this come along a few weeks ago before I purchased Twin (www.app4mac.com) which has turned out to be broken beyond belief for offsite FTP backups. To add insult to injury I paid nearly $80 for Twin.
They promise that a new version arriving Dec 1'st should fix the issues I'm having, but I certainly would have gave Parachute a shot for half the price, that's for sure. Perhaps it would have actually worked out of the gate, as well.
Handbrake 0.9.4 released, includes 64-bit support {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Nov 25th 2009 8:49AM Either this version is working some amazing magic, or I've got a setting wrong, because I'm encoding at about 33FPS right now.
I own an Elgato Turbo264 encoder and am only seeing about 6-8 FPS faster using the hardware encoder versus Handbrakes software encoder, which is what makes this even more amazing to me.
Orb has landed for Intel Macs {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Nov 9th 2009 11:13PM Was glad to see a Mac version, FINALLY.
Unfortunately it's useless. Same issues as many others - 3 or 4 seconds of video then it freezes or skips to the next video, and now the server app just crashes repeatedly.
There's no way in hell I'm going to spend $10 for the full iPhone app only to discover it's no better.
SuperDuper! 2.6.2 now even more so! {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Oct 14th 2009 6:05PM Doh, sorry for the double post, didn't think the first one went through.

Oct 14th 2009 6:05PM I'd like it if SD! could do offsite FTP based backups - I have a large amount of offsite disk space available and the extra security involved in having your backups off site is huge.
Yes, I know it can't be a bootable "clone" this way, but it could be offered as an alternative option that would add value to SD!
I was planning to use a program called Twin (mentioned by TUAW some time ago - http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/15/first-look-twin-1-0-for-mac-os-x/) but I was disappointed to see that it went from being a $39 app (when originally reviewed) that I would have bought in a heartbeat to a $70+ app, a price point where another external hard drive as a second backup makes more sense instead.
Rogers Wireless begins 21Mbps HSPA+ rollout, a first in North America {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 29th 2009 1:28PM Funny that they're rolling out this ultra fast network but they can't even get their base 3G network to provide decent speeds half the time.
At times I'm lucky to get 1/10'th of what 3G is supposed to provide. Dear Rogers, how about improving your "actual" speeds versus your "theoretical" speeds.
BeeJive IM offers up sale, tells of Facebook chat feature {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Mar 2nd 2009 2:46PM Justin nailed it on the head - this is not just an IM application, but an IM application with a back-end service that handles connections and such even when the app isn't open. Yes, Apple should have done this themselves with an iPhone iChat offshoot right from the launch, but since they're asleep at the switch BeeJive has filled the gap.
I've had BeeJive for some time and it works decent, but the 24-hour connection timeout still stinks and all too often I get alerts telling me that random IM accounts have disconnected for apparently no reason. If I miss the alert an important IM account could be offline until I load the app and notice such.
What's On asks 'WTF?' {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Dec 7th 2008 1:54PM Some good applications there, but craplications like Touchscan and the silly lighter applications really shouldn't be there.
Sure they might have sold enough to make it onto the lists, but the whole idea of several of those applications is dubious at best. To put them in a prime location where potential new iPhone users could install them thinking they're "premiere" quality software does the whole platform an injustice IMHO.
Drowning in a sea of spam? Spamsweep can help {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Dec 6th 2008 8:45AM Another suggestion for Gmail, either directly, or as a filter.
Spam is a complete non issue for me anymore, and has been off my radar for the last 2 years I've been a Gmail user.
