FCC starts up white spaces database, devices now inevitable {Engadget}

Archos 5 gets Android Market, Gmail and Maps for that Google-blessed experience {Engadget}

Capacitative does not exist in 4.8" size with 800x480 resolution at affordable price and in good enough quality. It's really not a bad resistive touch screen, probably the best resistive touch screen technology.

Archos 5 gets Android Market, Gmail and Maps for that Google-blessed experience {Engadget}

In theory you never actually need to reboot the device, as it resumes from standby in 1 second. So in theory people would only need to do the full 40 second bootup once every time the firmware is updated (once every 1-2 weeks, if you want to update it every time), or when the internal battery happened to be completely flat at one point.

But in practice, Android is a complicated thing and Archos can still sometimes crash or lock up and need a reboot. I don't think it is bad or makes it unusable, at least not for my use. It is often to do with what apps you install and how many Android apps you have running in the background and that take up all the RAM memory. Though I think this device has more RAM than any other Android device.

Archos releases developer edition firmware for Internet Tablets {Engadget}

Nov 28th 2009 1:16PM @ctyrider

It's better than the ipod touch and better than the Zune and iphone. Anyone with the minimum of technical knowledge (geek, Engadget reader) and who has heard about Archos is very likely to choose Archos over the tiny screen, tiny resolution and under-featured overpriced Apple hardware.

Archos releases developer edition firmware for Internet Tablets {Engadget}

Nov 28th 2009 1:00PM Yes, this is only for now for last year's Archos 5-inch and 7-inch Internet Media Tablets.

The cool thing about that is that even though this is only for last year's models, they are now super cheap, the 250GB 5-inch version is $199 on Amazon and the 160GB 7-inch version is $209.

Do Android & WebOS need iPod touch clones? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Nov 25th 2009 5:24PM You can make phone calls on Archos 5 Internet Tablet with Android over WiFi and over 3G using Bluetooth tethering to any cheap phone in your other pocket with a 3G data access. On the Archos Android Tablet you can use any of Fring, SIPdroid, Gizmo with Google Voice to make FREE CALLS.

So discarding Archos as "not a phone" is not the truth.

I would argue that Archos at 249 dollars for the 8GB model without a contract, is better than a phone because it doesn't require a contract yet it lets you make FREE CALLS.

Large Hadron Collider reboots, makes first protonic bang! {Engadget}

Nov 24th 2009 11:34AM @(Unverified)

We can understand how matter is made, and we could perhaps create a machine that can create any matter that we want. Like an alchemist, you could produce as much gold you want out of any other molecules, putting in some electricity, combining them a bit and out comes whatever you want.

We may also design much faster computers, more efficient electronics, we could discover a 4th dimension and start understanding how to use that to our advantage. For example a time machine, traveling in space at the speed of light, all that is possible. And flying cars as well.

Large Hadron Collider is online, Higgs boson be damned {Engadget}

Nov 20th 2009 7:46PM Yes soon. As soon as they find the Boson and use the scientific data to create a time machine, a space traveler and a matter generator.

Google's Chrome OS revealed -- with video! {Engadget}

Nov 19th 2009 5:36PM I am looking for more video of the event. Anyone posted it yet?

I think it sucks if Google doesn't release the videos from the events right a few minutes after the event is over. Having to wait 1-2 days for the videos of keynote events to be released on Google's youtube account is lame.

Menq's $80 EasyPC E790 netbook runs Windows CE now, should run Android later (video) {Engadget}

Nov 15th 2009 11:23PM Yes I believe this is the type of laptop where Chrome OS will be perfect. Or just the full Chrome browser in a laptop-friendly version of Android OS.
