Jun 18th 2009 3:01PM Actually, the 3G was hardly any different than the original iPhone, that much is true. GPS and 3G networking (which was a fail with AT&T).
The 3G S is substantially different that either of it's predecessors is also true. New CPU, more RAM, more storage, faster graphics processing, magnetometer, video recording, 3MP camera with autofocus, video editing.
