Jul 7th 2009 7:36AM Hell, Spike has them beat on Sci-Fi some weeks. After all, they did have the "Force of July" (airing the entire Star Wars movie series over the course of a week). That may qualify for more Sci-Fi then Sci-Fi (or SyFy or whatever they want to call themselves) shows in a month.

Jun 18th 2009 8:52AM @cg0def - Alas, many of these same companies you mention have their own licensing agreements with Microsoft and install the operating system of their choice. This is sort of volume licensing is very common and it is very rare to see a shop that relies solely on the OEM license a machine ships with.
I have worked for multiple companies of varying size and all of them used a volume licensing agreement or a Microsoft Action Pack (which is essentially volume licensing for small companies) to install the OS and tools they need. Businesses do not in reality rely on OEM installs of the OS.

Jun 18th 2009 8:38AM You are either an ignorant parent or no parent at all. At best, there is a correlation between room temperature and SIDS and not necessarily the babies temperature. And since this fabric doesn't respond until fever ranges, you sure as shit would no your house was too hot before it hit 98+ F.
Not to mention, most SIDS cases occur when a baby is asleep, which also happens to correspond a lot to when the parents sleep. I don't think a magical color changing fabric is going to alert someone who isn't looking at the kid. So any reference to SIDS would be pretty meaningless.
Seriously, this is a done and rather worthless idea, but there will be some schmuck for a parent that will buy this because they are too lazy or stupid to use thermometers or listen to the whining kid when they aren't feeling well.

Jun 18th 2009 8:31AM Baby clothes aren't cheap? Are you insane? They sure as hell aren't $33 and we've (my fiance and I) have bought clothes for friend's and family member's babies for less than $5 multiple times and almost always less than $10. Anyone dropping $30+ on their kids clothes needs to have their head examined. Of course, these are probably the same parents who will drop $200 on a t-shirt and jeans for their teenage kids someday.

Yes, the sensor is considerably larger then a G10; however, the sensor is smaller then APS-C, which I have in my Rebel XSi. The price points they are showing for this are outrageous. The $749 body-only is MORE then I paid for my Canon Rebel XSi w/ lens. (Heck, it is almost more then I paid for the camera kit plus an extra zoom lens.)
I would not merely pay "extra" for a smaller form factor. These things fall squarely between P&S and dSLR and will have a hard time finding a real market I think. Priced higher then dSLR you are narrowing the market down to a group willing to drop $500+ on a camera, which few people using P&S cameras will do. Not to mention that the interchangeable lenses will not appeal to most consumers. I think you are going to see too much feature loss for these to appeal to the people using lower-end dSLRs as well.
I really think this is a format that is going to die quickly if they do not drop that price point significantly.

you don't need multi-touch to scroll with most touch pads. In fact I have multiple laptops (ranging in age from 3 years to 6 months) that all scroll. granted it is using the "zone" method but it works just fine.

May 20th 2009 2:36PM Not totally worthless but it is a big feature missing. Though skipping commercials is an excellent reason for the DVR and a benefit that would be missed, the biggest benefit of a DVR for me is allowing me to watch two shows that air at the same time. It is also good for when I travel for business and cannot guarantee I get to watch all my shows.
The fact is there are conflicts that prevent me from watching shows I normally would watch. These include some of the aforementioned items. A proper DVR resolves this issue by letting you record one show and watch another. (Actually, I have bigger conflicts thanks to wanting three shows at one time at least twice a week. Thankfully the Media Center PC is going to resolve this issue for me.)
