Verizon to its smartphones: thou shalt have no other app store before mine {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 13th 2009 9:19PM
I think users in the know such as those of us who frequent mobile tech sites like this will find a way to get the apps we need/want even if it means typing in a specific URL.
Why is VZW doing this? Simple. They make more $$$ when people buy their apps and therefore their apps go to the front of the line.
I really don't care since I don't use VZW but I'm not sure why their business practices are newsworthy or a surprise to anyone? They've been doing this with their BREW enabled handsets for years and with the growing popularity of smartphones they feel they need a piece of the action here too.
T-Mobile myTouch 3G announced, starts shipping late July {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 22nd 2009 2:38AM
T-Mobile is the nation's 4th largest carrier because they didn't participate in any mega mergers that Verizon, AT&T and Sprint participated in. They had a few small ones like SunCom but come on let's be real not stupid.
I for one am very excited to get this device. I've been using an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile for a while now.
I like T-Mobile's network where I live and the call quality is excellent. I've been testing their 3G network out here in LA and I like what I see. They don't have 80 million users clogging up the network so at least in my area it's all mine for the taking. ;-) No complaints here!
I didn't think the Merlot one would look good but after seeing these pics I'm starting to see it in a whole other light. Looks good. Hard to decide?
I would have preferred a 3.5 mm jack, but when I stop and think about how many times I'd need it it's really a moot point. I use my Nano for music and a BT headset for calls while driving.
AT&T in the market for Leap Wireless? {Engadget Mobile}
May 21st 2009 5:23PM I hope the current administration would not allow any more of acquisitions by the top two largest carriers in the US.
All ATT is trying to do is kill their competition before it takes a bigger bite out of its wallet. This is not in the interest of the consumer.
Even the iPhone didnt' give ATT the most wireless net adds for last quarter among the top 4 so I'm sure they're starting to feel the heat even if ever so slightly.
HTC Touch Pro2 for Sprint spotted in the wild, mid-June release? {Engadget Mobile}
May 19th 2009 8:16PM
@ Sprint: Network conditions are location dependant. Sprint's network in LA is decent like most of them are, but Los Angeles it not the signal strenght barometer for every city in every region in our nation.
Even in well built out areas, Sprint sometimes sucks in the RF department.
I say this as a Sprint user and employee.
You say T-Mobile is the worst, but somehow they work better than both Sprint and Verizon in my house. Go figure!
Palm Pre training dude accosted by giant hand in internal Sprint training vids, new apps spotted {Engadget Mobile}
May 11th 2009 5:34PM I know the Pre is heavily anticipated by Sprint and Palm employees, but as a consumer I don't really feel any excitement.... even if it was GSM/HSPA enabled
There are just too many high end devices being released by T-Mobile, Verizon and ATT and unfortunately switching to Sprint for this big wide device does nothing for me.
I'd rather have the new Android phone by Motorola or any new variant of an HSPA/WiFi enabled BlackBerry.
T-Mobile to release "multiple" Android devices this year {Engadget Mobile}
May 9th 2009 9:52PM It's nice to see #4 get much more serious about their hardware and network ambitions.
In the end, this benefits everyone if it causes the larger carriers to compete more.
As a current satisfied T-Mobile user, I'm glad to see so many more choices made available for us.
Meet Maple: HTC's Cavalier successor caught in the wild {Engadget Mobile}

Device looks really clean and very functional.
T-Mobile needs a solid WinMo 3G device. I'd buy it if they launched it.
T-Mobile rumored to be queuing up cheap unlimited voice plans {Engadget Mobile}
Feb 20th 2009 7:14PM Remember, these unlimited plans are for proven loyal customers designed to curb churn. These aren't plans that are going to be offered to all new subs with the exception of the one time $135 credit for those who port in.
Google's offline Gmail demo reveals seemingly US-bound HTC Magic -- is this the T-Mobile G2? {Engadget Mobile}
Feb 19th 2009 3:01PM
This one definitely looks a lot sleeker. The G1 was their trial run and there are now so many Android apps avaialble that the G2 will benefit from.
Please include Stereo BT DUN or at least a standard headset jack for music. No bulky adapters!
T-Mobile should have their 3G network covering over 208 million POPS later this year so that will make this device much more palatable.
White BlackBerry Pearl Flip spotted on RIM slide {Engadget Mobile}
Feb 13th 2009 5:01PM
T-Mobile had exclusivity rights to the white original Pearl 81xx series. They may want to launch this one as their own as well right in time to combat ATT and VZW's release of this model.
Hopefully, the whole body will be white as opposed to only the inner keypad and shell around the internal display.
