Rumored AT&T trade-in program could provide easy alternative to eBay {Engadget}

Mar 1st 2009 7:07PM I think it might work if they do it right. Some people buy a new phone everytime something new that they like comes out. They're usually not eligible to upgrade so they pay full price. I do it a lot myself and usually I sell my phones to 3rd parties but if they're willing to buy my phone back and apply the money to no commitment phone I think it's ok. We'll see how it goes.

Man charged $28,000 for using data card, Slingbox to watch football game {Engadget}

Feb 24th 2009 11:03AM The cruise lines have the money to build decent cell towers on their ships and refuse to offer discounted roaming like other carriers that provide roaming coverage for US carriers. at&t is not making any money off people roaming and for these other carriers it's pure profit. The cruise lines charge $2.49 a minute for calls and .02 per kb for data. You can always see what carrier you are on with your phone and with internet. I work for at&t and I always make sure people know that they will get billed for EVERYTHING while roaming. I end up scaring people into leaving their phones home a lot of he time. at&t earns nothing while you roam and when we adjist the charges we are taking money from at&t not the other carrier. They send us the bill when you roam and it's added to your bill.

AT&T pays out $8.2 million settlement over school E-Rate program {Engadget}

Feb 16th 2009 11:09PM I work for at&t and I must admit they do a lot for charity programs and they try to help anyone that they can. I actively promote phones for military personnel. They donated thousands of phones during last years hurricane season and they donated phones during the fires out in California. We do fundraisers and other programs at work for charity as well. Not to mention the millions of dollars they donate towards programs and towards customers. I have personally helped out custolmers suffering in the current economy situation. Don't knock them for a mistake, I've seen worse from other companies.

Communications Workers of America authorizes strike of 20,000 AT&T workers, could happen soon {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 7th 2009 11:52AM Ok, as a current at&t employee and a member of the union I just have to say some have no clue what they're talking about. You can cross the picket line and work. The union understands that there are people in the union that need the money and the income you get from the union does not help much. Oh yea, if you do strike and are part of the union you get some income from the union, not much, but something. They have the option of fining you for crossing but they usually don't.
Now, in reguards to the union and strike possibility, We had the same issue last year in my district and the possibility of a strike came up. At&t prepares for the posibility of a strike by treating the non union employees like slaves. We never went on strike because we negotiated and came to an agreement. It's nice to have someone in your corner, standing up for you and your rights and benifits. At&t wants to raise our insurance premiums 3x and wants to lower our pay. Why is it wrong to fight against this crap? We used to have reasonable stats to make, we got perks for doing a great job, we didn;t have to fight for things that were common. Now we have stats that are ridiculous and hard to meet, they hope those that have been there for a while quit or get fired so they can higher lower paid employees. We don't receive any perks or praise for a job well done. We have to fight for things we used to get, once we had to throw a fit to have them replace a moldy ice and water machine. All the union wants is to protect our jobs and make sure we are paid what we are worth. I've worked for non union places before (home depot) and they crap on their employees. I quit when I was told that I had a choice between my job and my sick kid who had been in te hospital. A lot of my friends quit when the ceo told us thank you for his million dollar bonus and we got a 25% off coupon for the store. Yea non union is great isn't it? (sarcasm)

Feb 6th 2009 9:18PM At&t used to have decent stats they required every employee to make. They used to offer decent incentives for their employees, when we did a great job we were rewarded.
Lately though at&t has decided that they want to screw their employees. The have raised the minimum on our stats in the hope of getting those of us that have been there for a while to quit or get fired. They took away our incentives and prizes for doing a job well done. They used to make us feel appreciated and we enjoyed our job. Now we have to fight to get what little increase in pay we can get so we can try to make ends meet in this overpriced market. They take away our benifits and raise our insurance premiums.
All we want is to work for a great employer and get the benifits we deserve. Where I live it used to not be a right to work state and pay was competitive and jobs were good. Now we get paid less because they can hire someone else cheaper. It gives those that want to whine about how bad the union is the option to choose not to join. The point of the union is for the employees to stand united and work together. I know that there are some bad union reps out there that have spoiled it for others but don't judge one that wants to help. Remember this, it's not just the union that is saying to strike, they put it to a vote with the union employees to see if we want to strike. We can always say no but then we look weak and the big corperations walk all over us.
My grandmother was a union president in her district for 20 years and she always made sure the employees were treated right. When the company she worked for went under she made sure everyone got their severance package and all including the company were treated right. That company did one final thing for my grandma and our family. When she passed away, even though they didn't have to, they took care of half of the funeral costs because they knew that they lost a great person.
