Vodafone thinking long and hard about its Verizon stake {Engadget Mobile}

Sep 17th 2009 6:35PM Anybody that's in business knows that the biggest "screw-driver" on the block belongs to VZ... both VZW and VZC. While at&t isn't all goodness and sweetness and light, they still have enough of old blue left to work a lot better with business than VZ does. Of course neither of them work anywhere near as well with business as VF. VF should just sell their stake, partner loosely with at&t and just let VZ slowly implode all by itself.... be kinda fun to watch.

Video: BlackBerry support coming to REDFLY Mobile Companion, adds only marginal appeal {Engadget Mobile}

Sep 16th 2009 8:23PM Hey - it does a lot for WinMo and that's understandable - but BB? It'll depend on what's supported. WinMo I can plug in a mouse, a USB stick, a monitor, backcharge the device - but somehow I'm betting most of this won't work with BB... have to wait and see.

Head of Roman Catholic Church in England warns against the dangers of SMS, email, and social networking {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 3rd 2009 2:57PM @Doax - right. Didn't fit with rest of story, somebody here just wanted to be a bit sensationalistic - Joshua ;P

The Bishop didn't get it all right, but he got a lot right. He just didn't really factor in the BFF side of it. Typical humans need close personal friendships / relationships. In-person relationships are usually stronger and last longer than virtual ones. People don't meet on the internet and never want to meet each other because the internet is better!

So point 1 - if you're a person who doesn't have in-person relationships and spend all their time virtually, develop your BFFs virtually, you're more at risk for depression and suicide because by their nature, they're less close and break up more frequently. I know.

Point 2 - the more virtual you are, the less in-person you are, just due to time. Virtual friendships take time to keep alive, just like real ones. So with the virtual ones switching in and out more frequently than in-person, your in-person ones become way more important than before to provide some stability. And if they break down, its devastating. I know this too.

If we all just had in-person relationships, there would be more of them than we have today because we'd have more time for them, they'd be stronger and last longer. Maybe this was the point he was trying to get at anyway. Hmm.

FCC queries AT&T, Apple on Google Voice iPhone app rejection {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 1st 2009 1:29AM Brian, no disrespect intended, just facts - you have a lot to learn about Federal law and policy. You shouldn't say things like "this isn't anti-competitive" or "they have a right" unless you can back it up with case law. In my opinion this IS anti-competitive, and there is very little difference between what Apple and at&t are doing and what Microsoft is constantly paying millions of dollars out to the EU and other regulatory bodies for. You may not like it, but that's the law, and you're free to campaign to change it...

Palm "Pro" shows up in March Best Buy Mobile ad for $249 {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 23rd 2009 1:32PM Maybe Sprint will be better than AT&T, although I'd hate to switch. Testing a Pro now at the Gartner Mobile & Wireless conference, and Palm can't explain why the 175 units out for testing this week won't stay connected to the AT&T network. What they did confirm is why even though you can't make the connection to AT&T, the WiFi won't take over. We have to thank our Microsoft buddies for that. Apparently cell comes before WiFi in the stack, so if your cell connection is poor or has problems you actually have to shut it off to use the WiFi... c'mon Redmond, we deserve better than this!

Jul 25th 2008 2:00PM Darin, really - did you read the article? "Nanotechnology geeks" won't have a real treat, they're going to get squashed. They abandoned the nanotechnology route for something a lot more conventional because it was too hard to do. Suggest you reread - do you still have the link? ;-)
