Cutting-Edge, Eco-Friendly LED TV for Less Than $2,200? {Switched.com}

Nov 10th 2009 4:25PM That has to be the best advice I have heard yet. Great comment. Mind if I use this when dealing with people who ask about disposable TV brands?

Students Create 'Pro-Rape' Facebook Group {Switched.com}

Nov 10th 2009 3:38PM Coop, I don't think it was entirely against conflicting statutory ages per se. I think they crossed the fine line between arguing freedom of what the government says is an illegal relationship. It's not entirely about where laws meet society and ever changing social norms.

I'm married to a younger woman. She is 27 and I am 37. At our current ages, the relationship is more than acceptable. However, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, if our relationship started 10 years prior, it would be considered illegal unless her parents consented. Now where a 10 year age difference may seem a lot, what about an 19 year old dating a 16 year old? That isn't by any means a large age gap. However, why in some states that considered illegal? Now, don't get me wrong. Women under the age of 15, there shouldn't be a discussion, if your 18+, stay away. However, I think mentally 16yr old women are capable of making consent in dealing with relationships. I met my wife when she was 25, while she was definitely more mature than 17, cognitively she was the same.

I think these guys missed proving a point and just used that issue as a facade for some sort of sick joke or even worse, an intent to rape.

ZFS open source project abruptly shuts down, Snow Leopard weeps icy tears {Engadget}

Oct 24th 2009 2:29PM Now the question is, what is Apple going to replace the now defunct ZFS with? I don't have a problem with HFS+ but I do like to see progress on the filesystem front and it seems both Microsoft and Apple have both failed to deliver a new filesystem.

Are the old ones "Good Enough", even with SSD and new styles of storage arising?

Why Are Some Users Fleeing Facebook? {Switched.com}

Aug 31st 2009 6:35PM The biggest reason are employers and schools requiring account info for Facebook, Twitter, etc... I work for a fire department and they require your user name and password for all social networking sites to be and stay employed.

Sure, its an invasion of privacy but when the unemployment rate is almost 10% - to hell with it. I deleted everything. I keep in touch with friends the old fashioned way, I pick the telephone or go out and see them in person.

Optoma HD20 projector cracks the $1,000 barrier {Engadget HD}

Aug 6th 2009 6:56PM My HD70 works great, but it needs a lot of lateral distance to throw a decent size image. If the newer ones are shorter throw with true 1080p then I may upgrade.

Laptop Mag's tech support showdown strikes once again {Engadget}

Aug 6th 2009 6:50PM HP Servers & support for servers (if you purchase the top-of-the-line support) is FANTASTIC, downright amazing at times.

Dell Servers & support for servers (if you purchase the top-of-the-line) is very nice, sometimes a little frustrating, but it eventually works out.

Now, if you don't spend $300+/year on support, on either one - prepare to wish you had or wish for a gun to SHOOT YOURSELF.

As far as personal PC's go. The fit, finish and workings of all the PC's are generally the same. Bob may purchase a Dell and never have a problem. Sue may purchase the same Dell and have nothing but problems. The same goes for HP. A person may have zero problems while another person may have nothing but problems.

As far as what I advise my friends and family, I tell them to get the best service package. If you do not, you'll soon want to commit suicide.

As far as Apple. I've had a few disappointing calls, but that was for a problem with the ADC Apple store. Apparently its a bad link that has yet to be fixed and only one out of three people I called knew about it. Other than that, Apple telephone support is downright great.

I purchase mostly Apple Products with Apple Care and I ALWAYS get the $499 ADC Select membership. I spent $500 and saved over $650 on my 17" MBP. Even ignoring the other ADC benefits as value-added, I still save $150.

When I purchase PC's I normally build desktops myself from parts. When I buy laptops, I usually buy them from Asus but I do have a few Lenovos. Lenovo's tech support is good and bad at the same time. They FORCE you to use the preload which is absolute GARBAGE and never want to help if you reload the system yourself. Next laptop I'll purchase will be from whoever gets me what I want thew cheapest but then I will buy the platinum kiss your butt tech support with it.

Oh yeah, and NEVER buy a computer from Best Buy or any store like that.

TiVo turns on custom RSS video feed support {Engadget HD}

MacBook Pros with 7200RPM HDDs getting a touch too noisy? {Engadget}

Jul 12th 2009 8:33AM Actually, Intel just doubled the size and cut the price of it's SSD offering. So, possibly a little broader like people who can only marginally afford $1200 - $3200 laptop.
