Palm Pre: everything you ever wanted to know {Engadget}

Jan 13th 2009 10:39PM Doesn't it make perfect sense that the Pre is launching on Sprint? Ignoring for a moment the fact that Sprint and Palm have always been very tight (Sprint was the first to launch the Treo 650, remember?), Palm and Sprint are (were?) in very similar positions. Both are losing market share to competitors, both are trying to recover from past mistakes (Foleo, Nextel merger), and both need radical changes in corporate cultures in order to recover viability.

So in a sense, they need each other. Would VZW allow Palm to do its thing without meddling? Probably not, since Apple allegedly walked away from VZW and into the waiting, grateful arms of AT&T because of VZW's meddling nature. We've all seen the way VZW protects its proprietary walled garden offerings such as VZW Navigator and cripples phones that circumvent these services. Would AT&T have been a wise choice as exclusive partner? Probably not, since they're obviously very attached to Apple (but is the opposite true?) and thus would not sink a lot of resources into promoting the Pre/webOS as the best and only thing out there. Would T-Mobile have been a wise choice as exclusive partner? T-Mobile hasn't carried a palm product since the Treo 600, so the lines of communication aren't there....

No, Sprint was the perfect choice for Palm to launch webOS and the Pre. A successful history of working together and a mutual need to regain relevance puts both parties into a situation where they can relate to each other. Palm seems to be holding up their end of the bargain with their incredible presentation at CES - the critics have been silences and the buzz about Palm is higher than it has been in years. YEARS. Now Sprint needs to get their shit together and continue cleaning up all billing, customer service, and image problems... and as a satisfied Sprint customer, I hope they succeed.

Joe Flacco Steps Breaks Out, Becomes First Rook Two-Game Playoff Winner {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Jan 12th 2009 12:40PM http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter?game_id=54459&season=2008&displayPage=tab_gamecenter

Watch the video on hat page at the 5:55 mark - clear, definitive evidence that Flacco did not step out of bounds. No safety.

Palm's Pre boxed {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 9th 2009 6:04PM Yeah, the difference between my Mogul box and my Touch Pro box is like night and day.... the Mogul box is solid yellow and full of all kinds of crappy graphics and floating heads. The Treo Pro box, on the other hand, is all black, very minimal graphics - just the Touch Pro with the yellow neon swoosh floating around it. It's nice.

Palm CEO says Europe gets Pre in the first half, too {Engadget}

Jan 9th 2009 3:08PM Hey, you live in the U.S. and want the Pre? Stop whining and sign up for Sprint service. It's that easy.

Hands-on with Novatel's MiFi 3G hotspot {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 7th 2009 1:24AM Me too, Sprint rules. My Touch Pro + WMWiFiRouter = 3G anywhere. Screw the haters.

This is a good idea though - my dad uses my old Mogul (he used to use my old 6700) solely as a wifi hotspot. That is the phones only purpose - to be the modem for the house. Something like this could simplify his operation, although I'm sure the ESN is gonna be marked so that it will have to be attached to a $59.99 mobile broadband data plan....

Pharos rolls out Traveler 137, coming this quarter for $599.95 {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 6th 2009 6:53PM Actually, it sounds like a Touch HD with a trackball and Windows/OK buttons. Two things that the Touch HD should have had, in my opinion.

Ask Engadget: Best current smartphone for under $200? {Engadget}

Jan 2nd 2009 1:19PM Best Buy has the HTC Touch Pro from Sprint for $199 - for new customers OR for upgrades. I upgraded from the Mogul to the Touch Pro last week - $199 plus tax. The best bang for your buck right there.

Fuze, X1, and a couple Touch Pros: the ultimate WinMo smackdown {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 29th 2008 10:24AM And by A1 I really mean the Xperia X1. Whoops.

Fuze, X1, and a couple Touch Pros: the ultimate WinMo smackdown {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 29th 2008 10:23AM I have the Sprint Touch Pro so I'm a bit biased... but I think it's the best looking Touch Pro variant (and I agree with BananaBoat that the Touch Pro and the Fuze are both better looking that the A1). But looking at the pics above, the Sprint TP doesn't seem to photograph well and the Fuze does look the best in the above photographs. But I've physically held them both side by side and used them both and to me, the Sprint TP beats the Fuze. But it's close.
