Sony Ericsson acknowledges touchscreen issues on Aino (update) {Engadget}

Nov 26th 2009 7:09PM I happened to get the US version of this phone for $400 (through friend who is Sony employee) and I frustrated with this phone. Mainly because I love so much about it but the phone gets annoying as it gets unlocked and starts to play music when in pocket and also you have to leave the slider open while talking else you will accidently touch the call end button on screen while having it close to the ear.

worst phone I every owned. Will try to send it back to my friend for refund. Hope he won't be pissed. I can use this news for my reason :-). Thanks Engadget!

Ask Engadget: Which Android phone should I get? {Engadget}

Oct 29th 2009 9:49PM Sony Ericsson X10. Waiting for Nov 3rd to more details of this phone. Hope it will be a GSM version with AT&T 3G. It will be sweeter if AT&T picks it up. Maybe it will be their first Android phone in time for Holiday season.

SonyStyle unleashes Sony Ericsson Aino in the US for $600 {Engadget Mobile}

Oct 28th 2009 7:19PM Do they really sell this semi-developed touch interface for $599? Even though I hate iPhone it is priced at bargain value if you compare it with Aino's $599.99. I can get 16GB iPhone 3GS for about that price without contract. With Aino we have to deal with SE's FastPort cable to use headphones.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 to launch in France within two months? {Engadget Mobile}

Sep 18th 2009 6:00PM I wish this phone is prices around $499 so I could afford it. But I don't blame SE for over-pricing it because they seem to be targeting different customer base with their flagships. Customers who want to buy only expensive things. They don't care if it's crap. Just like people pay insane prices for watches, handbags, cars, etc. SE probably they can't compete in low-priced market with LG and Samsung.

If they release Xperia X2 within weeks of WinMo 6.5 release they might have done their best job in recent years in having product in market not too late.

SE should learn not to over-hype their products when they are in concept stages of design. Look at what they did with Xperia X1. Recently, W995a and now making people wait for Idou which they now call Satio. I think they will again change the name before release to make it feel new with customers. Satio will be released when people are already trying to forget what a terrible touch OS N97 and Nokia 5800 are. Everyone is already expecting S60v5 Release 2 or something which gets Kinetic Scrolling, etc and Satio comes with a version that Nokia released 6-months back. Satio will be an Epic fail for SE. WinMo atleast was a good OS to make phone calls in a convenient was as it has the best implementation of Smart Dialing, Call Logs, email unlike S60.

Sony Ericsson hand delivers 8.1MP C905a and W518a Walkman to AT&T {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 15th 2009 1:19PM If AT&T is selling for $175, it should probably be way less or free at amazon and letstalk. Even though it's an year late C905a is probably the best phone out there for anyone looking for camera phone as it has Xenon flash plus they get the best non-smartphone OS on their phone.

I am getting two C905a's on a family-plan when Amazon sells.

Sony Ericsson W995a hands-on {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 9th 2009 4:21PM The line between smartphones and SE dumbphones is very thin. The only feature SE phones lack compared to smartphones is an email client with HTML support. Maybe, someone will come with a cool Java app that can do that. SE feature phones also lack active standby screen like S60 or WinMo have. But then, iPhone and Adroid phones also lack this even though they are considered smartphones.

Many things SE phones (W995) can do that some smartphones may lack:
1. Multi-tasking
2. Several hard-keys to launch apps.
3. Excellent camera with flash
4. Best Music Player that can actually replace the need for MP3 player.
5. Ability to easily change the look of the interface with themes.
6. Motion sensing games.
7. Push Notification
8. Google or other Calendar using SE's SyncML.
9. On camera photo editing without the need to purchase 3rd party apps.
10. Ability to hack and customize the hell out of phone using something like A2Uploader.

P.S. There is a JAVA app to make your standby screen Active too. It can display Calendar items and Tasks.

Sony Ericsson expands PlayNow arena to cover apps, too {Engadget Mobile}

Jun 3rd 2009 3:47PM I think SE is only making it official now. I remember couple of years back on PlayNow, they had not just music but tabs to download Wallpapers, Themes, Ringtones, etc. They just added apps to this which always used to be there on their Fun & Downloads link on their default NetFront Browser.

Sony Ericsson needs to raise 100 million euros to stay afloat, says CFO {Engadget Mobile}

May 20th 2009 7:41PM Too bad that a company that makes the most stylish and well built phones is struggling. They probably know they are to blame themselves for falling behind customers demands. They come out with great phones only a year late. Look at W995. It would have been a fantastic phone had they released it just when they made it public. Now, 8MP camera phones are normal with Samsung and LG releasing them in several models.

And touch screen phones are the only growing segment and SE looks clueless in that arena. They came out with Xperia which had everything going nice except that they made the screen way too narrow for that resolution. Making the fonts tiny and almost useless for touch use. You need to use a stylus for most actions. They should have released another version of Windows Mobile around then with similarities to HTC Touch HD. Big screen and touch friendly interface. They missed that. Now, they annouced Idou with great hype like 4-6 months back.

Look at how many similar models will already be in the market before it comes out. N97, 5800, Samsung Omnia HD. All these three will feel mostly similar with S60 v5 edition. Which I felt sucked on 5800. So, they will come out with Idou when everyone already is looking for something better than the silly touch interface S50 5th edition has.

They should come out with their own A200 version for touch screens. Copy the best from iPhone OS, Windows Mobile, and S60.

Simple clean interface, nice multi-media, excellent excellent MP3 media player, active standby screen similar to Window Mobile, a great touch screen browser (can use Opera help here or Mozilla), and something new no cell phone yet has.

One good feature to think of to target active lifestyle segment is to include some sort of heart rate moitor, pedometer kind of stuff.

Set new benchmarks for the market to copy you. That should be SE.

AT&T considering cheaper iPhone plans? {Engadget Mobile}

May 18th 2009 3:09PM AT&T should just increase the phone rates and reduce the data-plan prices. Then, we all can be happy buying unlocked phones and keeping them for more than 2-years instead of picking up AT&T junk phones and sending them to LANDFILLS every two years just because we are eligible for another upgrade.

Sony Ericsson launching stuff on May 28 {Engadget Mobile}

May 14th 2009 3:32PM It could be the release of W995 of which people heard so much that they are already thinking it's some OLD SE phone. Still I would get it if it supports AT&T 3G.
