I just checked with T-Mobile tech support and they said that they don't necessarily "know" which phone you are using always. They said that no matter what type of phone it is (iphone or nokia bar phone), if it is not sold by T-Mobile you automatically pay the smartphone data prices. I asked if that meant even if I had only a basic Nokia 3120 type phone that I would pay that and he confirmed that it was true. WTF

Plan change is ok per T-Mobile internal site (see screenshot here). So if you are not allowed to then the company providing the service has no idea about which agreements they have made with their partners.

Nov 5th 2009 10:01PM Did you receive a test unit from T-Mobile? I am interested in this for a family member who doesn't need a smartphone, but not a single site is covering this handset. I guess I will have to make a trek down to the T-Mobile store and check it out first hand.

Oct 28th 2009 7:37PM I wouldn't call the G1/Dream an "extreme disappointment". What did you expect for a phone that was used as a development platform for the initial OS release? I am still using my Dream today (with an official Android 1.6 update might I add) and am happy with my purchase. Would I be happier with a bigger screen, faster CPU and more memory, yes. Will this phone hold me over until something else catches my eye on a GSM carrier, for sure.

Oct 5th 2009 1:39AM why can't these carriers/manufacturers agree to go with internal memory as opposed to swappable? Since the OS will not allow install on external cards it makes the large media cards nearly useless.

Apple TV junkies left out of new iTunes Extra special features {Engadget HD}
Sep 11th 2009 9:51PM my guess is that they are still trying to work out some legal issues with the MPAA or whomever is the governing body. This is the same reason NBC/Universal will not let anyone put Hulu on a TV. They want the experience to be like watching a DVD, but not to replace the need for someone to buy it (to watch it on a TV set). And yes I know anyone that visits Engadget knows how to hook their computer up the their TV and watch Hulu, etc on it but that is not what the "public" considers an option.
