Nokia said to be launching smartphone with AT&T, Snapdragon ahoy?
Nokia, the world's largest phone maker, hasn't even registered as a blip on most Americans' radars for years now. Not since Neo's 8110i fell out of a FedEx envelope has the public as a whole coveted anything the company had to offer, but that could be changing very soon. According to VentureBeat, Nokia has signed on with AT&T to launch some hot new smartphone in the not too distant future, presumably with the sort of incentivized pricing that, for once, might just allow it to be a value proposition. Details are slim, but it's said to be running a Qualcomm processor and, given rumors of Snapdragon talks, that's where we're putting our money.

Nokia using an updated Qualcomm Snapdragon for a mainstream AT&T smartphone?! No way, those new highend processors are reserved for niche market "mobile computers" such as the N900...just ask my N97 and it's corporate cousin, the E72.

Not that I believe this is going to happen, but if it does, it better run Symbian dammit. Maybe Maemo if they give it all the things it's missing. And hold the overdone AT&T branding please. Thanks.

Maybe I should have read the article first. Looks like it will be Symbian. You know, I thought with Apple showing that a phone manufacturer (albeit one just getting into it) can lay down the law with the overly controlling carriers, that maybe, that would open the door for others to follow suit with unbranded phones locked to the network being sold through AT&T on contract. Especially manufacturers like Nokia who have been around for a long time. I admire Nokia for holding out this long. Some may call it stupidity, but I think it shows a backbone. Nokia knows the consumers here will never truly know what their smartphones can do if AT&T is going to keep changing them. Don't get me wrong, Nokia should work with them on S40 devices, and push devices already designed and sold in Europe. A lot of them would have done great here. I'm thinking that the 6500 Slide would have performed just as well as the LG Shine. But as far as smartphones, I wouldn't budge unless AT&T agreed to loosen the grip it has. Then they could have things like the N900, N86, and E72. I think Nokia's only hope for that though is for the consumers here to wake up, open their eyes to what's really out there, and hammer the carriers to give it to them, without all their branding on it. I'm interested to see what Nokia and AT&T are cooking up here.

I agree. But people are not the only culprit. The online blogs here also hide many such new thoughts and cleverly try to put negative things forward and hide positive things, especially
when a non-US phone manufacturer is concerned and specifically Nokia, since no one here wants a non-US no1 company.

And as far as Europe, India and China are with Nokia, no iphones or Androids can beat Nokia.
