Samsung Omnia II gets broken down, screenshot by screenshot
The overwhelming mediocrity of Windows Mobile 6.5 gives us pause before saying something sensational like "it's a great time to be a WinMo fan," but we've got to admit, manufacturers are really stepping up their game to deliver these days -- one need look no further than the mighty HD2 to see that. The Omnia II's looking pretty solid, too, especially if you like your phones served up keyboard-free, and ai.rs blog has compiled a comprehensive screenshot gallery showing just how deep the TouchWiz integration really goes. Build quality is said to be top-notch, and it's pretty hard to argue with a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display -- so as we go into 2010, it looks like we might be gearing up for an epic TouchFLO / TouchWiz showdown in the WinMo octagon. Who doesn't like a good fight?

Okay, but when are we going to see this phone on the street?
Kulahan @ Oct 27th 2009 9:37PM
Never. I'm convinced Verizon is just pretending to release it. In any case, I can't see them releasing it any time soon, now that they're putting so much effort into this "Droid" biz.

No kidding. WHen are they going to release this pos? Enough talk already!

I was SO looking forward to this phone. They just kept jacking around and jacking around and not releasing the phone. I am through waiting. I am going to get me an HTC Android when they hit soon. Bet they'll be out before this one and they just announced it recently too. Bye bye Samsung!!

I was geared up to buy the Omnia II in June, then July, then August, then September, then October.......
I have now pre-ordered a HD2 and expect to get it mid November. No more waiting Samsung, you had your chance.

I've had the Omnia II for about a month now, and the first thing I did was get rid of TouchWiz and replace it with SPB Mobile Shell. The interface is extremely limited, and quite laggy. I also replaced the keyboard - which is decent but laggy and lacking features - with TouchPal.
Hardware-wise, the Omnia II is excellent. Fast, well built, good camera (especially having a proper 2-stage hardware shutter button to hold focus). But pretty much everything Samsung put into it software-wise is a letdown.
Luckily, it's Windows Mobile, so users can actually make choices with how they want it to run ;)

Carl.....I doubt that you have a pre production unit of the Omnia2. If you had you would have brought up other features that are still unannounced. Remember that non-discloser agreament that you would have signed to get it or did yours not come with one. Please enlighten us all.

Omnia II has been out for a while outside USA. I'm in Hong Kong (one cool thing about the Omnia II - it can switch between Chinese and English, unlike I believe all Windows Mobile phones prior)

I too am tired of waiting for the Omnia 2. Being as the Motorola Droid is available on Nov. 6th, I am leaning toward getting the Droid. Is this a good move or should I wait for the Omnia 2??

I had the i910 on Verizon. I really liked the hardware, and I seem to be one of the few who don't have any problems with WinMo, but TouchWiz gets old really quickly; it looks nice and all but it's not the most efficient way of getting things done, and many of the widgets were/are too small for their own good, not useful, or were things that someone would always want on a homescreen by default (like the calendar or the clock). I don't knock them for giving us options though. Regardless of that, I got tired of waiting too and got an Imagio two weeks ago. Though I still have 12 more days to return the phone, I don't plan on doing so. I've been waiting on Samsung and Verizon to release the Omnia II since June, and now I'm done waiting.
