If there's one thing that's sure to break a new
Droid owner's heart, it's scratching the hell out of it -- or worse yet, dropping it to its untimely death. Wouldn't that be a tragedy? Of course, one quick and dirty way to avoid a lot of that heartache is to equip your phone with a beefy protective case, and from what we're seeing here, it looks like there won't be any problem whatsoever finding such cases on day one of the Droid's availability (whenever that happens to be). What we've got here is a third-party case (excuse us -- "carrying solution") that's popped up over at Best Buy Mobile, though interestingly, the Droid's model number of A855 is being featured far more prominently than the catchy name itself. Given the look of this thing, we think you'll need to have an extreme dedication to preserving your phone's rugged handsomeness to actually equip it, but hey, more power to you -- meanwhile, we'll carry on with letting our phones rustle around with coins, keys, pens, and switchblades in our pockets.

Hmm. Should I go buy a carrying case for a phone I have not bought yet?
Plexus @ Oct 20th 2009 9:29PM
Yeah, I think you should.

Yep, the Motorola Droid did everything it can to promote the Droid phone. It was a pretty stiff competition especially if you’re against an iPhone. The spec comparison are almost the same between the two.. up to the price point. We have to wait for customer reviews.

accessory makers, especially lower end makers, will more likely use the Device Model instead of Droid because that name is licensed by Lucas Films and who wants to pay for permission is they don't have to?
Gomab 2k4 @ Oct 21st 2009 12:16AM
Good point Morton.

Well just like most of those the street name is still in the upper right corner where it says "Fits Motorola Droid A855". Trying to fly under the radar maybe?

This is not the only case available, I have googled the term "motorola droid cases" and found many other available cases, Like this website for instance http://www.motorola-droid-cases.com

@Morton Do you really think accessory makers will have to pay to use the Droid name when selling an accessory for a Droid product? Seriously? That's as believable as if you have to pay Lucas Films each time YOU use the word Droid. Silly, rabbits.
(Btw, if you look carefully, it says Droid in the orange part.)
Will @ Nov 4th 2009 1:16PM
Vincent, that orange part looks like a sticker that someone put on the packaging. The store maybe?
