Nokia shows off N900's sweet web browsing skills on video
Eager to get your pulsing palms around Nokia's N900? Yeah, we feel your pain. As if the phone itself and Maemo 5 haven't been talked about enough, Nokia itself has published a new video showcasing the Mozilla-based web browser. Only time will tell if said browser lives up to the hype, but if the video posted up after the break is any indication, we'd say things are looking good. Six minutes may be a long time to look at something you can't touch, but we're guessing you'd listen to six minutes of the host saying anything. Have a listen -- you'll see.

I am so torn between this and the Leo. Good times!

I'm fed up with Nokia. I love my N800, but they've been faffing about with this for 2 years, only to lose what made the other devices special - the huge screen. Plus they've stripped turn-by-turn sat nav (even the tosh that was way-flounder), and made it a full phone.
3 years ago my n800 was special, perfect, and unique. Now the n900 is just a shiny smartphone, with very few commercially supported apps (TomTom etc...). I'm going back to WinMo and the HTC HD2. Until next time Nokia. Maybe.

Looks good. Now throw a Mozilla-based browser and flash support into the iPhone and we'll all be set.

I think this video shows much better the amazing capabilities of Maemo 5:

I'm going to wait a year or two. It's looking great so far, but like all new tech, it will take a bit to polish up the final product. I'll stick with my Nokia 5730XM until then.

Wow - I didn't know that Kimi Raikonnen worked at Nokia! Such rousing delivery. :)
I have to admit this device may be cool enough to suffer along with ridiculously limited T-Mobile 3g support. Maybe I can keep another phone to use while I'm traveling.

i like the option of a visual history, but hope there's an option, even if it's in about:config, for the standard history. Visual history is great for larger screens. On smaller screens, i prefer a favicon and an URL, possibly a title. You can fit a lot more of those on the screen, reducing the time needed for searching. It would take me forever to find a page i was looking for if i were to use the visual history shown.
What's interesting is that there's no more intuitive action for copy and pasting than Ctrl + C/Ctrl + V. Nothing wrong with that, and i usually prefer it, but in Windows Mobile a tap and hold on selected text will bring a context menu with the standard cut/copy/paste options. It's things like that that really bring home that this isn't a mass market device, though frankly, given the level of handholding that occurs with devices like that (see iPhone), i'm not upset about that at all.
The big downside for many of us in North America is the lack of T-Mobile 3G and/or the fact that we'll be using the N900 on AT&T. Using such a media-capable device on EDGE will be a serious downer. The browser looks great, but viewing streaming video over EDGE without a browser like Skyfire is an excercise in patience, particularly if you want to view them in HD. And yes, WiFi's out there, but there's many of us that don't have continuous access to numerous open APs.
Personally, it's really going to come down to how well Opera Mobile 9.7 with Flash will work on the HD2, assuming it comes to a GSM carrier. Both are top tier with regards to their OS, both have issues that keep them from being my current perfect smartphone.

I am also torn between this, HD2 and Acer Neotouch. Reading the comments really changes your mind. I know HD2 is polished and accomplished phone but this maemo OS is still in intial stages as far as mass market is concerned. Also i am a heavy MMS user and lack of that on this device puts me off. I live in a country where i can only get sim free phone and looking at how the high end phones just keep going up, it might come down to cheaper option for me and this might turn out to be a cheaper option than HD2 because of open source OS. I dont know i am sort drifting towards Acer Neotouch as well but i have problem with the size of iphone, neotouch is even larger.
