Garmin nuvifone G60 officially coming to AT&T: October 4th for $299
Can you believe it? No, seriously -- can you believe it? Nearly two full years after its surprise introduction to the world, the nüvifone G60 is finally coming to US shores. In an official press release outed today, the Garmin nüvifone G60 has been blessed with an October 4th launch date on AT&T. Oddly enough, nary a mention of "ASUS" or "Garmin-Asus" is found, but regardless of semantics, you can bet that it'll be looking for buyers this Sunday. The internal GPS chip and 3 megapixel, auto-focusing camera will enable users to geotag photos and emails and navigate using the same heralded user interface that folks rely on today with the company's standalone PNDs. You've already pounded the specifications into your head by now, but the last figures you'll need to know are these: it'll run $299 on a two-year agreement after a $100 mail-in rebate, and if you're hoping to access Premium Connected Services -- which includes traffic updates, white pages, weather, movie, local events and fuel price content -- you'll be forking out $5.99 per month after the 30-day trial expires. So, after all of this, who's in?

Who would buy this now with the iPhone and other quality phones out or on the very close horizon? Terrible timing. Two years ago this would have been killer. Today, it is not even worth it...

I have to agree. I dont see many people lining up on Sunday for this phone. I mean the nuvifone 2 should be out by now.

There's late to the party, then there's this thing...

so THIS is one of the many deals you'll announce before an android phone? looks more and more likely that ill to go t-mobile for the Cliq.

I was all about it two years ago. Since then I've switched phones twice, and there is nothing Garmin has here that makes me want to switch again. To little to late.

Every time I read a line like "3.55 inch display" on Engadget mobile I wonder if I'm the only one that thinks that tells a person almost nothing about the display. If I had the size along with DPI then I'd be happy or at least pixel width/height. This way I would at least know how much usable screen real estate I have. I would know if it's a sharp display or if it's like looking at a picture through a screen with clearly visible pixels. In fact for many of the articles on Engadget I have to search the net for the display size and in this case it is stated to be "3.55-inch 272×480 pixels touchscreen" as found on intomobile.com it is also on Asus's website but buried deep. Anyway one thing is true about this article and that is that outside of Linux junkies/hackers I can't imagine why anyone would buy this.

Where are AT&T's new phones? Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint... they're all making announcements. Is this the best AT&T can do?

This phone doesn't seem half bad. The price is what's going to be the problem an that can always be reduced.

No phone has GPS like this one. The GPS fix on it is WAY faster and more reliable. It's Garmin, the phone is based around the GPS. If you like getting movie times, weather, and directions very quickly, this is the phone you're looking for. As to all the comments above about the phone's lateness, it was their first phone and they had NO idea how much there really was to it. The fact that it DID come out and IS a slick phone is what's impressive. You personally may be over the fact that it's around, but the release of this phone is the start of a platform that is pretty interesting and new.

They should have canned the project a year ago.

Does anyone know what the no contract price for this phone will be? What if I want to sign up on a 1 year.
