iPhone MMS is now live!
All you've gotta do is plug that iPhone 3G or 3GS into iTunes, run the teensiest of updates, restart the phone, and you can at last make that fashionably late entrance into the 21st century you've always dreamed of. That's right folks, MMS on the iPhone is live on AT&T at last.

One of the many reason I'm ditching both Apple and AT&T... "IF YOU WANT MMS, YOU HAVE TO BUY A NEW IPHONE...." YOU ARE A BUNCH OF ASSHOLES APPLE.
GO HTC HERO!!!
larry Friedman @ Sep 25th 2009 2:40PM
You better hope the Hero doesn't end up like the G1 where you have to buy a new phone to run the newer OS builds.
Flyer00 @ Sep 25th 2009 2:49PM
Yeah, no doubt the original iPhone could do MMS if they wanted it to. I remember there was a jailbreak app back in 2007 that enabled it. Apple just chose not to support it on that model.
ThePengwin @ Sep 26th 2009 3:03AM
Apple really arent trying to disprove the old saying:
"To upgrade your apple device, just throw it in the bin and buy a new one"
MMS was available well before 3g, so why does the first gen iPhone get shafted? The people who got them have been loyal since day one...
AndyJ @ Sep 25th 2009 2:14PM
Woo Hoo!! That means we should be seeing new commercials from Apple soon heralding the newest advance in mobile communications!!! MMS!!!
Never before available!!! On an iPhone
Welcome to the '90s!
Jesse @ Sep 25th 2009 2:16PM
Does this affect your jailbreak?
mphayvanh @ Sep 25th 2009 2:30PM
It's not a firmware or baseband update so it should not. However, if you're jailbroken, you can bypass the official carrier update by other means to get MMS. Google it. I've been successfully MMSing on my 3.0 for a week now and it works great. 4 minutes to receive an MMS is not bad. My PPC phone was faster. Can't win them all.

For those of you who have "Jailbroken Devices" below is a procedure to get your phone on the MMS bandwagon!

Definitely works here!
unfsniperfox @ Sep 25th 2009 2:41PM
Do I have to have 3.1? I can't go to 3.1 because I have iPhone 3G with Exchange!
dagamer43 @ Sep 25th 2009 4:41PM
It's not just iPhone 3G + Exchange = failure, your exchange server has to enforce encryption on all mobile client devices before it will block out the 3G.
Ryan @ Sep 25th 2009 2:43PM
You will not get an official carrier update if you are running 3.0, jailbroken or not. its a pretty easy fix though...
John P @ Sep 25th 2009 3:54PM
great.... what is the easy fix to get MMS if I am running 3.0?
Chris @ Sep 25th 2009 2:51PM
Carrier update applied, but it didn't work here to enable. Might try to restore the phone and reapply the update. Checked to make sure it wasn't a plan issue either.
Marco @ Sep 25th 2009 3:37PM
After you have updated your iPhone, turn it off and turn it back on so your MMS feature is enabled.
k harris @ Sep 25th 2009 3:31PM
still have the original iphone and been running mms since jan 2008...great time to catch up apple and at&t
derX @ Sep 25th 2009 3:49PM
'...you can at last make that fashionably late entrance into the 21st century you've always dreamed of. " Very nice line. Wish I could uprank you for that.
Brian @ Sep 25th 2009 3:53PM
Congrats for getting something I have had on my phones for years!
Trebec @ Sep 25th 2009 4:22PM

Welcome to the 21st century apple!
Nathan @ Sep 25th 2009 5:43PM
Red exclamation...tried different photos to two different people. Still a no go :-(
Scott @ Sep 25th 2009 6:36PM
Pictures are going through with my iPhone 3G and I'm getting them. But if they are of a large size, they're having trouble going through. The servers are having a hard time with the amount that's being sent. Try sending smaller files first. I just got my first large file to work. And I'm jailbroken using 3.0.1
LC @ Sep 25th 2009 7:31PM
It's official...I'm on Iphone 3g 3.01 firmware, used applied carrier update 5.5ipcc (not directly download thru iTunes, but updated thru iTunes), can send & receive MMS.

Sooooooo glad I didn't get an iPhone.
Pathetic.

*clicks stopwatch*
Wow, 2 years, and nearly 3 months, Great timing Apple & AT&T
*slow claps*
greggwsmith @ Sep 26th 2009 3:13PM
Gee, if they can just add tethering and get some 3G in my area the money I am paying might be worth it!
David @ Sep 26th 2009 5:49PM
THROUGH THIS LAST UPDATE, MASS TEXTING IS NOW LIMITED TO 10 MESSAGES!!!! HOW COME NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS??? That is why I left Verizon.. I am so bummed out
Michael @ Sep 26th 2009 9:51PM
No it's not! My MMS has not worked since I installed the carrier update. I've shut my phone off like 10 times. I've even backed up and reset my phone. Nada. When I call AT&T, they are determined that it is something with my phone because I can receive MMS, but I can't send them. They can't figure it out. AT&T is horrible.
fdc7 @ Sep 27th 2009 12:58AM
Still doesn't work for me either. This sux.
Dell Ibedaboss @ Sep 27th 2009 1:31AM
Apple sucks..... they are so damn strict and controlling, how do you leave such a great feature out of a phone for YEARS?! Pathetic... and all the cruel things they leave out for users with older phones when they bring out a new one, smh. Let's see what happens in June 2010... some of you better start saving those pennies or get your hacking game up....
James @ Oct 7th 2009 1:34PM
Anybody else have CRAPPIER battery life with the 3.1 update?
