Griffin iTrip now features iPhone OS 3.0 integration
Griffin, known for its accessories for the iPod and iPhone, has just announced its latest and greatest (though just how great is still in question). The latest iteration of the iTrip takes full advantage of iPhone OS 3.0, allowing you to control the FM transmitter from your iPhone / iPod touch itself. Aren't luscious touchscreen controls preferable to the iTrip's tiny buttons anyways? In addition to app integration, the transmitter features track and artist information on RDS-compatible radios, SmartScan technology for finding the best available frequency in any locale, and a micro-USB port for charging any USB-powered iPod or iPhone from a charger. iTrip is available for $49.99, and the iTrip Controller software can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

Wow. That's quite the deal on such a robust transmitter. RDS? That's something you don't see on all of them.
I wonder how the RF performance is on it? Being able to charge the device with a standard micro USB port is a huge plus.
I wish I had an iPhone (wait, no I don't - that means I'd have to use AT&T which is < Sprint). I'll just stick with my iPod Touch and HTC WiFi sharing. ;)

Since it can be controlled from the iPhone/Touch now, there should be 'mini' version that lacks a screen and controls.

My Nokia N97 has an FM transmitter inside the phone and it works great , in my car it sounds as good as beaming BT2 music files to the "infotrainement unit" (I swear that's what they call it in the car's boolet)

I just fired off an email to find out if it can be used for speakerphone functions through the radio in the car. That would be a huge plus for somebody like me, who spends 7-8 hours a day in different vehicles for work.

I doubt it. As useful as that sounds I don't think I know of a single device that does that.

I was about to order that for use with my HTC phone, then reup when the latest greatest from HTC came out for AT&T... but the deal they gave me on an iphone was too good.

FM transmitters are so 90's and so is Griffin. Just try calling them with an issue on an item under warranty and just see how unhelpful they are.
A customer service rep. told me that the model I had (the newest one at the time) had problems and that he didn't care... and to return it to the store.
So... I did. Never going to buy anything from them again.

Just get a Nokia - all of their new range phones have an fm transmitter (ie an itrip) built in.
