T-Mobile hits the sauce, demands $350 for HTC Touch Pro2
Jumpin' Jehoshaphat! With Apple lowering the smartphone price bar with its last-gen iPhone 3G at $99, any well-specced phone hitting the airwaves these days for over a buck ninety-nine on contract just seems outrageous. And then, there's this. T-Mobile USA has somehow found it within its heart to charge a near-astronomical $349.99 (on a two-year agreement, no less) for HTC's latest WinMo-packin' powerhouse, the Touch Pro2. Look, we aren't saying the phone isn't worth its weight in gold, but a quick look around the marketplace shows just how out of place this obscenely large asking price really is. The silver lining? We're betting this slips beneath the $200 mark just as soon as the HTC fanboys have chipped in their early adopter fees (and it hits every other carrier in America).

I just called a store and they said $280 for 2 years, $320 or $330 for 1 year....so there's a discrepancy going on here.

Tmobile is confirming what I've been thinking for a long time.
Tmobile needs to fire the ol' geezers in their marketing dept.
Someone can purchase a $99 iPhone 3G with a slim sleek look and robust OS.
Or purchase this bricky-laggy-buggy once-a-year-updated WindowsOS for $350.
How hip does Tmobile think WindowsOS is on a mobile these days.
I hope Tmobile proves me wrong. I'll be looking for the lines at Tmobile stores today...

@ MobileFan "How hip does Tmobile think WindowsOS is on a mobile these days." Well I dont really think that WinMo is what it is because its HIP. I think WinMo works best because its a better office alternative to the BB. The iPhone, Pre and Android seem to be running with the cool and hip hook. While BB and WinMo are more concentrating on being a really good smartphone for the office types. I could be wrong, I mean "Windows Phone" (Winmo 6.5) is supposed to cater more to the finger friendly consumer. But I'm sure it'll still be a very good office alternative where the iPhone, Pre and Android just dont cut it.

AND it's asking for a required DATA PLAN... Damn, @ $350 I could get an unlocked OMNIA for a lil more... TMO went overboard on this one, considering how much people are counting each of their dollars these days... =(
I like TMO, but seriously, I'm considering the AT&T now...

I just hope Sprint doesnt go overboard and have this cost more than $580 which was the cost of the Touch Pro. For $350 you may as well save up the other $200 and buy off contract tho. Nobody is askin for this phone to be $99 after a contract cuz this is a REAL smartphone unlike fancy scrollin Iphones and Pre's with laughable keyboards. Once people find they can get this same phone on Sprint & Verizon for $299 (With Real 3G) T-Mobile is in trouble.
Andy @ Aug 12th 2009 6:40AM
Yes, I believe that T-Mobiles day are numbered. People will soon know that they can get the same phone on Sprint and Verizon for cheaper price.

For $350, Catherine Zeta Jones better show up at my front door with phone in hand to give me a *ahem* mobile makeover.
Fire_Ice @ Aug 12th 2009 3:51PM
Haha....that's hillarious!!!!
joetheshow @ Aug 13th 2009 3:17AM
OUCH! Not only is it $350, but they also will require that you have a data plan for the length of the contract ($25-30 x 24 months) unless ofcourse you wanted the data plan in the first place. I personally use wifi too much to warrant a data plan.
Ab @ Aug 12th 2009 7:50AM
Data for the WHOLE 24 months? Shyt i already have the $6 web and $10 unlimited family msg plan...
chad @ Aug 13th 2009 10:12AM
T-Mo's new M.O. 'Even though are 3G is barely off the ground and running', we now command a data plan throughout contract, like the rest...
except, you don't T-Mo. Because a. your 3G network sucks and B. this was the only thing reason that I might have sticked with you. What's the point of continuing our 3 year friendship when I can migrate to Sprint, get the phone for AT LEAST the same egregious price, and get way better 3G for 'cheaper' on a all inclusive family data plan?
When Sept. rolls around, buh-bye T-Mo. :)

I thought the HTC Touch Pro 2 has built in wifi? How come when I bring up the phone on T-mobile's site and narrow the selection of phones to wifi equipped, the HTC Touch Pro 2 doesn't show? When I also reviewed the specs at Tmobile, wifi is also absent.
What's the deal here? I wanted to get this phone but if there's no wifi ....
TJ @ Aug 12th 2009 3:41PM
Um..Wifi-equipped means, it has Wifi!!
nkog @ Aug 12th 2009 10:41AM
well since its better than the iphone an that palm junk i think the touch pro 2 merits the 280-330 price range. just because iphone is 199 or whatever it cost doesnt mean every phone should follow there pricing. you paying 199 for one of the most locked down phones ever made.
Jordan @ Aug 12th 2009 11:53AM
What a description! And you get a "5 row's QWERTY." Huh?
Adam @ Aug 13th 2009 3:15AM
Found it for 499.99 and 299.99 just buy going through HTC's site and clicking buy online. There are a few different options, it's hiding at the bottom of the page.
