Recent Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM shows finger friendly approach
While the world patiently awaits the release of the first Windows Mobile 6.5 device, it seems like the devs behind the software are warming to the fact that folks love those touchscreens. While existing versions of WinMo -- not to mention early builds of WinMo 6.5 --have focused on switching between screens via clickable tabs, a new ROM pictured over at PPCGeeks shows a subtle but significant change. If you'll notice, the screen on the right would prefer that you swipe left or right to get from 'Version' to 'Copyrights' or 'Device ID,' which should absolutely delight fans of the OS who also prefer touchscreen-based phones. Now, if only we could get Microsoft to push this stuff out onto a shipping handset, we'd really have a reason to cheer.

I would like to inform you, that MOST WM6.5 roms allow you to just "flick" your finger from left to right (or vice versa) to move between the tabs. This seems to be a WM6.5 feature only.

give it to me baby !!

The latest ROM from XDA: build 23004! Not 21925!!!
Reftheking @ Jul 20th 2009 1:59PM
They're 2 different branchs. 21925 is for testing, the 23007 is a com3 i beleive. So many features from 21925 are not on 23007 and may never be...

Sweet, not sure if I want to go to 23007 or 21926... Thanks for the explanation though! Was searching xda / ppcgeeks for it.

Wow ! Windows mobile took 2 years to understand that we want more finger friendly devices... Is it so hard to developpe a good User Interface ? Chome was a good beginning but they are still so far behind the Iphone...

What is "Chome"? If you mean Chrome, that's not a mobile phone OS; that's Android's role.
Blad3 @ Jul 19th 2009 8:20PM
lol fail moron
PhilR8 @ Jul 20th 2009 12:04PM
No, he meant "CHome", pronounced "C Home". It's the name of the Zune-like today screen for WM6.5 touchscreen devices. It's already implemented on the non-touchscreen WM6.1 devices.

This is fine as long as there are only two or three tabs. If there are four or maybe five, it's harder to use because you can't see the names of the other tabs now.
It's not like it was hard to touch tabs in WM 6.1, either; just use your fingernail. The hard part was the little scroll arrows on dialogs with more than four or five tabs. That's where flicking becomes quite useful.

@Steve
He did mean CHome: it's the Titanium Today Plugin for Windows Mobile 6.5
@rafalplus03
Actually, the latest build is 23007
All of the latest builds are on their way to Windows Mobile 6.5.1 which is apparently going to see some serious under-the-hood changes and finger-friendly updates.
Steve Mueller @ Jul 19th 2009 6:42PM
Ah, thanks, Josh. That pesky capital H made the difference. :)
rafalplus03 @ Jul 20th 2009 4:21AM
Now the newest is 23008 (Miri v24.0)
Peter F @ Jul 19th 2009 8:46PM

even with my custom rom, yes, I said it.

What will be the reason to use WinMo these days? As far as I'm concerned, it is NONE!
