OMFG is it cool. BT still does not work and some things are laggy, but man is it the coolest OS in town.

It makes Cupcake look like Windows 3.1.

Some of the fun stuff, for example, is when on the G1's home page you press "Menu" and there is one item called "Scenes" which is another term for Windows themes.

It has about eight different scenes or themes (work, play, social, etc.) and it changes the wallpaper, icons, clocks, etc. Of course you can customize the desktop, but the preset themes are really cool.

I also transferred some WMV (windos media video) files, downloaded the Meridian Media pplayer and the WMV extensioned movies played! That's amazing to me.

Also nice is that you can rotate the trackball to the right or left and you have five different desktops or an expanded desktop depending on your perception of what is taking place.

One of the best experiences I have had with my G1 was immediately after I installed Hero I went to my website where I have a "click to play" icon. On click it plays a flash file. I clicked and it played flash. WOOT!!!!!!!!!!

There's also a completely different phone dialing interface. Far better than what's on Cupcake.

For example, sorely missed on my G1 "stock" interface is the lack of speed dial (only #1 works for speed dial, which is set for voice mail). Why it's set up for #1 to speed dial and no others, 2-9, is beyond me. Well Hero has speed dial options for 2 through 9.

Anyway, it's great. I was a little dismayed not to have BT, but I can live without it because of all the other features, plus the nerds at XDA are working on it. It's damn cool that Hero is on my G1.

Michael Mortimer

Comments on New HTC Hero ROM leaked, Flash 10 already chugging along on a few lucky G1s

Hi Michael:

I just got a Tmobile G1 a few days ago and think it's really cool, but when I saw HTC Sense it blew me away. May I ask where you got it and how you transferred it to your G1 please? I'd really appreciate it.

Phil

Comments on New HTC Hero ROM leaked, Flash 10 already chugging along on a few lucky G1s

Oops.... Be sure you are ready to take that risk before trying it.

This link is the most brain dead way of getting to root on android...I highly recommend sticking with the JF build they discuss in the tutorial and kind of learn the what rooting is all about, and then proceed to look up alternate builds like the one discussed(JACHero)
http://androidandme.com/2009/05/guides/beginners-guide-for-rooting-your-android-g1-to-install-cupcake/

Hopefully that helps you out a bit :)

Tyler936
