When I get a new phone I usaully buy 3 plus chargers(a couple for travel and car). With this being the standard I will have these chargers, no need to buy more. And once this standard has been in place for a while, a phone could be sold without a charger, and it would not be a big deal.

mpete

Comments on Nokia, Apple, RIM and others agree on micro-USB phone charger standard for Europe

The real question is if they can agree on what constitutes a standard for "microUSB". Really drives the margins for the cell phones, which are constantly under price pressure. Ive been saying that for ten years now. "There needs to be one universal charger for almost all small handheld devices, not just cell phones." Ok maybe two or three is acceptible too, but Ive had five cell phones in the last few years and each one requires a different charger. So I have to go get 3 new chargers everytime, and im sick of it. I need one for my car, for the living room and for my bedroom, and one for work. And you know where the old ones go, the trash! Because they sit around on my table for a year or two, and I ask everone that comes and goes from my house to take it if it works. This is just absurdity beyond absurd...

FIX IT!!!!!!!!

dt

Comments on Nokia, Apple, RIM and others agree on micro-USB phone charger standard for Europe

Notes:
- This has been floating around for a while
- No mention of HTC, who really likes its Ext-USB (mini USB + audio) connector
- Mention of Apple, who really likes its iPod connector

tnkgrl

Comments on Nokia, Apple, RIM and others agree on micro-USB phone charger standard for Europe

The HTC Hero has a micro-USB charger, so I'm sure we'll see more HTC phones with micro soon enough.

Now about Laptop chargers...

ieatzpie

Comments on Nokia, Apple, RIM and others agree on micro-USB phone charger standard for Europe

in My opinion HTC's ExtUSB is the best solution so far.
