MetroPCS rolls out mega-cheap international calling plan
If you do a lot of calling to other countries and you're on a budget (or, heck, even if you're not on a budget), it's going to be hard not to sit up and take notice of MetroPCS' ridiculously affordable new option. Subscribers to the regional carrier's $40, $45, and $50 service plans will be able to tack on unlimited international calling for just $5 a month, offering access to "over 100" countries representing "over 1,000" destinations at no additional charge -- they're being coy about the exact numbers, but at any rate, "over 100" countries is a lot by our geographically-impaired count. So, you know, don't be shy about ringing up that buddy in Luxembourg a little more often, alright?

WTF!?
National Carriers take note... I wish it was always this simple.

well... it's of course mostly to landlines not cell phones (at least to Europe)
I pay for the same service $9.99 through Skype http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/subscriptions/uscanadaworld/ , it's more expensive but the cool thing is
1. I can call from any phone I want (not just one cell phone)
2. if I call TO cell phone I'm charged (but I can do it, not like MetroPCS which blocks the call)
3. I can customize it to one country only and pay $6

As I thought, it only works for landlines. Most of my family in Chile don't have landlines now. Just cellphones. Oh well!!!!

That is a fantastic deal considering every other national carrier is an absolute ripoff.
Calls they throw in for free are a few $$$$ per minute with other carriers.

Sounds like a great deal, but why are they being so secretive about which countries they cover? They don't provide a list, just a "phone number finder".. so I have to type in the numbers of the folks I want to call to see if they're even covered? Is that some method of figuring out who people want to call? They just track which numbers people put in?
Anyways, Philippines landlines don't appear to be covered.. making this plan all but useless for me.

Sweet! Unlimited calling to Chinese cellphones and landlines! That's all I need.

I jumped at the opportunity and subscribed last Sunday. Before I did, I checked the website to make sure my numbers in India were covered. To my surprise, all cell phone numbers were shown as covered. I've made use of the service all last week. But today, the cell calls are being blocked and their website says that the cellular numbers are not allowed.
Oh well - some things are too good to be true. I will return the handset.
