T-Mobile, Verizon set to offer Android-based Motorola phones this year

Details are still a little light on this one, but The Wall Street Journal is reporting that both T-Mobile and Verizon will be offering Android-based phones from Motorola before the end of the year, according to "people familiar with the matter." While the Verizon phone is still a bit iffy, the T-Mobile offering seems to almost certainly be the Motorola Morrison which, as you can see above, is already pretty well acquainted with T-Mo branding. According to one of those people familiar with the matter, Verizon's Moto phone will have "similar hardware to the T-Mobile one," including a touchscreen and a slide-out keyboard, which doesn't exactly rule out Motorola's rumored Calgary slider, even if "similar" isn't the first word that springs to mind when discussing the two.

Um, doesn't Motorola have a piss-poor rep these days? I haven't owned one of their phones in...well, ever, which probably says something, but I know their sales have been tanking the past couple years.
Maybe it was just the software and Android will fix all that?

They are banking on it.

my Moto Q9c was one of the best phones i've ever had honestly. now it did suck hard before VZW released the 6.1 update but post update i had absolutely no problems with it what so ever, which is unfortuneately very rare in phones these days. maybe Android can help them out a bit.

ditto on the "ugliest phone ever" comment. I mean, come on.
But on another note. I'd buy it if it had a flash for the camera, a 3.5mm audio jack and exchange support.

I thought Verizon can't get an Android phone because they're not in the Open Handset Alliance.

Vodafone is, though.

If this phone is -$99 it will be a hit. It will also overtake the sidekick as the phone of choice for middle/highschool hoodlums.

Those who count Moto completely down and out have not been paying attention to the wireless phone business for long. VZW needs Android soon or the iPhone won't be the only reason customers are dropping them.
