Microsoft: 'June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers... hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre' Update: It's a hoax
Microsoft has a new twitter account in support of its Office 2010 product launch. What's strange though, is that the people behind the account seem to care more about the future of the Zune than Office. Two tweets (of five) from this account have caught our attention. The first says,
Update: It's worth mentioning that the big E3 gaming expo kicks off on June 2nd (press events on the 1st) -- could be important if there's any truth to the new Zune HD supporting some form of Xbox game integration.
Update 2: Sadly, it's all a hoax -- but it was fun while it lasted.

June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers. Then as a followup to the barrage of questions received, @officethemovie adds,
New product launch, that's all I'm allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre.Naturally, we're expecting the launch of the Zune HD and/or the unveiling of project Pink. Whatever happens, the month of June is going to be historic with Apple's WWDC scheduled to kick off on June 8th and the Palm Pre rumored for release on June 5th or June 7th.

"We're releasing a new car, so hold off on buying a house."
cowabungaCarl @ May 12th 2009 11:21AM
even if they are making a zune-phone they are probably only anouncing it in june, which means it wont be available for purchase until the end of the year,...

@EV-D'OH,
I think those comments were meant to hint that this will have phone capabilities.
Sort of Steve Ballmer showing that he, too, can be cool (not just obnoxious) by making a device that has BOTH phone AND music capabilities! (Imagine that!)

damn. i do love my Zune. im still pretty sure i'll get a Pre but i will at least keep an eye on this one.
Adam Reiniger @ May 12th 2009 7:26AM
Surely though, if they recommend holding off buying an iPhone or a Pre, the announcement is more likely to be phone related than plain and simple Zune HD? Zune HD is not a competitor to the above mentioned phones... is it?
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ May 12th 2009 9:06AM
i think that's the point of the post. Zune doesn't directly compete with the iPhone or Pre, it competes with the PMP only iPod Touch. his statement is telling me at least that they are readying a competitor for the iPhone and Pre (which are both PMP's in addition to being phones).

regardless of if it's a phone or not, if it's a portable Xbox Live Arcade player I'll buy one in a heartbeat, I might even be tempted to buy 2, so the Mrs and I can play 2 player peggle duals on the go. :)

Give me a portable XBLA and I'll dropkick my PSP and my girlfriend's DS. The idea of Castle Crashers anywhere and everywhere is almost over whelming.
kevinniven @ May 12th 2009 10:30AM
I dont get it? I thought microsoft wasnt building a phone???
kevinniven @ May 12th 2009 10:33AM
It will be the Diamond 2 with Zune player!
plh2034 @ May 12th 2009 11:05AM
This annoys me.
First they lie over and over again about not making a MS phone. Then they drop vague tweets telling me to hold off on a new phone purchase.
They better have solid specs and a release date before the Pre and iPhone 3 hits store shelves
Achilles @ May 12th 2009 11:11AM
First off, the Zune is a huge brick for it to be a phone. I'll pass for that reason alone. Second, no specs, no talk of which OS it will have if it is a phone. Last, if it is a WinMo phone (which it probably is), that's already an epic fail!!!!
Kyle Ward @ May 12th 2009 3:34PM
Considering the fact that WinMo phone sales are still ahead of Iphone....it will certainly be a "epic fail".
if the phone looks just like the pics, i'll probably wait for it rather than buyin a touch hd.wait and see
hagba @ May 12th 2009 12:19PM
the Z-Phone!!! (like ZORO,LOL,he is always on time for rescue!!) if this in fact, turns out to be a Microsoft phone I intend to wait for its release, since I must get a new PDA on June.
Mo @ May 13th 2009 10:41PM
I can't wait till "fail" is a long forgotten like the use of noob.

Does anyone know what makes this Zune Phone or this Zune HD better than the iPhone or the iTouch? I mean we still dont have the thousands of available apps that they do, we still aren't able to buy movies on the Zune Marketplace, and Itunes stuff is now all DRM-free, Zune's isn't. Yes, this Zune HD does look cool, but what about it is going to make people stop buying Ipods and iTouches for this? I think ive heard its only going to be able to hold up to 16 GB. I realize it's not very common to start off with a giant capacity for a new product but still. And with Apple, supposedly to release a 60 some GB iTouch this summer, there's no way i think we'll be able to pull ahead of Apple. I think the software is what needs the most updating out of all this. Have more available games, we have to start selling movies, what's the point of having a Zune with 80GB or more if you can't buy movies for them. I know there is software out there that converts dvds to zune formats, having one myself, but you all have to agree there are plenty of people out there who dont know about that kind of stuff and are just confused and upset because they cant put their movies on their Zune. The new device will help alot too, and those definitely need to be touch screen, and have a web browser. Maybe something they could add that would put us ahead of Apple, is microsoft apps on there or something. Like Microsoft word availability or something. That would be really cool. You could send your projects to your email from your Zune and then print it off when you get home or to school or something like that. I think the radio on Zune is definitely a plus, and the fact that it tells you what station you're on and what song is playing and being able to add the song to your cart for download is a big advantage for Zune over the iTouches. I just think the Zune team really has to knock it out of the park on this next one, or I dont see us ever pulling ahead in popularity over Apple.
