Assuming he actually has that stuff and is not just making it up, are we hating him because he has money? Is that any different from hating poor people for being poor?

Grow up, kids. If he can afford it, good for him. If you want one, then make some more money and buy it. If you hate all expensive luxury goods, then you should probably find someplace other than Engadget to spend your time.
