Verizon's XV6900 sees official Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM upgrade
It's rather difficult to believe that Verizon's version of the HTC Touch -- less affectionately known as the XV6900 -- is just now seeing an official update to Windows Mobile 6.1, but yeah, that's exactly what's happening here. Just a few short months after the WinMo 6.1 update was leaked, we're now seeing the official ROM update rolled out to the people. The upgrade also provides much needed EV-DO Rev. A support, an updated MMS client, Microsoft Remote Desktop, VZNavigator and compatibility with 16GB microSD cards. Not like we really need to twist your arm here, but if you skipped out on the leaked version, now would be an awesome time to get with the program.

i wish they would do a 6.1 update for the Treo 700wx. they did a 6.0 update for some reason and it's just not doing the trick. im scared to try a cooked version either because it seems people are having problems with loosing the radio settings which makes calling impossible.

The Treo 700wx doesn't have the GPS chip in it anyway so 6.1 wouldn't really help you so much. At least 6.0 gives you the html emails and a few additionals over WinMo 5. 6.1's only real advantage over 6.0 is that it gives the drivers for GPS on such phones as the Mogul/Titan which were rushed out for public consumption before they had the software to run them at full tilt.
I doubt you'd notice too many differences from 6 to 6.1, though I assume Palm would tweek it to run a little nicer, if they were to make an official release. Now that the Pre is their main focus, I wouldn't hold your breath for another update.

native threaded text messages are a big enough difference for me. im not worried about the GPS honestly as i already have a standalone unit. i had 6.1 on my Q9c which i ditched for the 700wx (which i bought on the cheap). thats by and large the thing i miss the most. i've tried all the remedies to get it working on 6.0 but they all just lead to me having to hard reset my phone again and live with the default.
and as for the Pre thing, they had plenty of other Treo's and Centro's out when they finally updated the one i have, so i doubt that would be the deciding factor. this is just the newest Treo that Verizon has unfortunately. im not expecting an update, but it sure would be nice if they did. also im like 97% sure im jumping ship to Sprint for the Pre anyway when it releases, i just need something to get me by in the mean time. i love WinMo Pro as opposed to WinMo Standard, but im missing some of the little features from 6.0 to 6.1.

How'd you get the update? I've been searching Verizon Wirless' site for it and can't find it...or is it the Windows update from the device itself?
