Verizon changing some plan names, gets Alltel in-network calling
We've been able to independently verify Boy Genius Report's claim that Verizon will be changing the name of IN Calling to the simpler "Mobile to Mobile" (and we can also kick in that INpulse will become just "Prepaid") on February 15. That alone isn't terribly awesome, but more importantly, Alltel numbers are now included as in-network calls for Verizon customers. Alltel customers, meanwhile, have to wait for the merger to complete. Sorry, folks! And here's a little something for the data fiends: the venerable BroadbandAccess laptop plan becomes Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband (there's a mouthful for you) this coming Monday. That's an incredible upgrade from four to ten syllables, so we should all be thanking our lucky stars for that.

I don't see the big deal in changing plan names. I say keep them the way they are now.

Boost Mobile is the way people!!!! $50 for unlimited everything, voice, text, web, walkie talkie, and no cntract. I'm a verizon customer and when my contract ends in 2 months I'm heading to Boost. Yippy!!!!!

$50 is just for unlimited voice calls. It's actually $70 for unlimited everything, which still isn't bad. The catch is that if you leave your calling area, it's 15 cents a minute extra, or $9 an hour.
This kind of service would be great for people who talk/text/web a lot and don't leave their calling area much. I would look into it if there was a GSM version offering the same plan.

No, it's actually $50 for Unlimited Talk, Web, DC, and Messaging. You're referring to the current, market-limited, CDMA unlimited plan which will be replaced by the new one effective 1/22.

and good luck with your calling reception....sprint esta no bueno....consumer reports with over 41,000 testers say so.....VZW still ranked number one nationwide.....how many years in a row?
Nerd Ferguson @ Jan 17th 2009 7:11PM
Boost is cool, and I wouldn't knock their overall service at all, but it's definitely not the carrier of choice if you're into texting.. I can't count the delayed texts/responses iDEN was responsible for back in my Nextel/Boost days. Ugh.

$50 does get u everything, there is no catch you get to use the entire network(no roaming),go to boostmobile.com & check the official statement they have posted on their website(my cousin works @ a boostmobile customer service center so I have a little inside information)...it is actually a good deal,I'll be getting both of my daughters a line & I won't have to worry about trying to control my bill 4 them from being so freaking outrageous...at&t is killing my pockets!!!

Isn't Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband nine syllables?
Regardless, it's still a mouthful

And, "mobile" has mo-bile as its syllables, not mob-ile.

I heart you guys.

OMG I just thought about this...does the alltel purchase mean we will be getting the touch diamond?! Plz plz plz!!!!
CapnShiner @ Jan 18th 2009 3:06AM
By technicality, I would say yes. All Alltel phones will eventually be supported on VZW. Whether or not VZW will brand their own Touch Diamond and continue to sell it remains to be seen. Personally, I would prefer the Touch Pro from Alltel, but seeing as VZW already offers their own crippled version, I don't see that changing any time soon. The ideal situation IMO would be to have a contract expiring right about now, get the Touch Pro from Alltel on a 2-year contract, and wait for the transition to VZW.
I wonder if you could by a used, Alltel-branded phone and activate it on VZW now...
Steve @ Jan 18th 2009 4:15PM
Anyone know if VZ customers can purchase Alltel phones?
Mike @ Jan 18th 2009 7:42PM
The big question is will we still have "My Circle" after the merger dust settles? If not that Boost plan looks very tempting. I'm willing to deal with a few coverage problems if there aren't too many. My Circle saves us a bunch of money!

So does this mean I can call all my Alltel friends for free?
