Nokia's oldie-but-goodie N95-1 gets another firmware update
If you've got a Nokia handset enjoying life in its golden years, it's comforting to know that the mothership hasn't forgotten you -- at least, not completely. Owners of the original N95 -- like seriously original, N95-1 style -- are enjoying the spoils of a new firmware update, though "spoils" might be a bit of an exaggeration since the package is being described as "minor." Better than a slap in the face or getting run over by a dump truck, we suppose.[Via Symbian-Guru and Symbian-Freak]

I have the N95-4 (8GB Internal) and I'm really pissed about Nokia restricting updates to phones gotten from carriers. I mean, I have to unbrand my phone, which voids my warranty, to update firmware. Screw that... Other than that though, the N95 is a spectacular phone. Love it.

I used to love my N95 too and then I loved even more my my N95-8GB but I was happy to get away from Nokia because of its abysmal Nsuite sinc'ing software.
I simply hated every aspect of it: buggy , bloated, unreliable,in need of constant updates and dowloads... jeez I'm so happy I erased all that crap from all my PCs.
Besides as good as the N95-8gb has been it can't even be compared with my actual HTC touch HD and my Samsung Omnia (i910): another generation of devices and definitely another league.
Maybe the N97 will bring me back to Nokia , but I really hope that by then they will have fixed, or even better: totally redesigned their PC syncing software, Nsuite is shameful and an insult to Nokia clients.

N95-3 owner here, 2nd class citizen according to Nokia. I don't buy products again from companies who don't support their products post-release out of sheer laziness. My Apple products and my PS3 on the other hand I am very pleased with!

UGH I'm still so mad...I deadbricked my aunt's N95-1 last week trying to update it from v21 to v30. Damn Nokia Software Updater.
(Before anyone tries to point it on me, I followed every single instruction that stupid software did.)

It's a risk you run when you flash firmware even when you know what you are doing. If you don't, well... Don't do it out of warranty for someone else if you don't want to deal with the potential consequences!
