i-mate Go user interface masks Windows Mobile 6.1
It's almost disturbing how many UI masks we have now for Windows Mobile 6.1, but even more frightening is the fact that Microsoft is sitting around rather than doing anything about it. All that aside, those frustrated with the aging OS can give i-mate Go a shot, which is a new UI for the company's WinMo 6.1 handsets that attempts to deliver "advanced capabilities and touch access to the user's favorite functions through a simple icon-based menu." It's available now as a free download for the Ultimate 9502, Ultimate 8502, Ultimate 8150, Ultimate 6150, and JAMA 101, and while you may be scared to give something like this a try, just ask yourself: what do you really have to lose?

Yeah, Windows Mobile (aka Windows CE) is dead. Now, you're asking Vista Pro (aka Win 7) for mobile phone? :)
ZSX @ Dec 11th 2008 5:51AM
Windows CE is used in tons of systems from ATMs to Point of Sale terminals, and Windows Mobile market share is actually increasing globally, so I'm not sure where you are getting the 'dead' from. I also believe Rudolphe is also referring to Windows Mobile 7 rather than Windows 7.
The distressing news is that at the Möbius conference, Windows 7 does not appear to have the kind of intergration with Windows Mobile 7 which you would expect. At least that's what's being twittered. There is also no word on the UI of Windows Mobile 7 which is, for better or worse, what most people fixate on.

@Crayon: Microsofts next (after 6.5) mobile OS will be Microsoft Mobile 7.

Based on latest data, Apple OS X and Blackberry OS grew impressively while Symbian and Windows Mobile on the decline worldwide..

I'd be willing to bet money that within 2 years from today Android will replace windows mobile as the major Smartphone OS on US (and probably world wide) phones.

I think you are forgetting that Nokia is taking Symbian to open-source land and that most North American carriers have chosen to stand behind LTE for 4G services. With most carriers under one 4G standard the barriers will be lower for Nokia and Samsung to bring their top phones to NA carriers.
