free isnt always better, but it seems so far (from very early G1 reviews anyway) that Android is a pretty solid platform. these companies now have a chance to cut out the OS royalties and in house ground up development, so why wouldnt they? i was actually completely surprised when they announced that the G1 would be the exclusive Android phone for a while. i expected a floury of them from the gates.
