Motorola sullies Ferrari's good name with branded Z8
So try and put yourself in a Ferrari owner's shoes, if just for a moment. You're filthy rich; likely too rich for your own good, and possibly rich enough to have extraordinarily eccentric taste. What phone's in your pocket? A mere commoner's Motorola Z8? Of course not -- odds are you're sporting a Vertu or two -- but Moto is hoping to keep you in the fold with a specially branded version of the same, tired, old Z8 that launched nearly a year ago. For what it's worth, the phone features all manner of Ferrari badging, gets slathered in the classic rosso corsa that graces an overwhelming majority of Ferrari's works of rolling art, and features preloaded Ferrari media, but that really doesn't change the fact that it's a flippin' Z8, now does it? Granted, this isn't the first time Motorola has partnered with the legendary Italian marque having pushed out a branded MOTORAZR MAXX V6 back in the day, but something tells us Enzo drivers aren't carrying those, either (just a hunch). Find it in the Ferrari Store and through Moto's European retail channels starting in the first quarter.

Ferrari will whore out their name to anyone that'll pay up, I doubt motorola will be much of a dent, those speakers on the other hand.

Hmmm...wouldn't it have been of a more harmonious symmetry for Moto to release a BMW branded version of the Z8? As it is, "Ferrari branded Z8" just sounds like a marketing mess.

Sorry that I have to correct you :
-I owe/drive a Ferrari F430 F1
-you don't have to be excessively rich to buy one : this car is the same price as a Porsche Carrera Turbo ...
-Ferrari drivers/owners do not buy Ferrari branded gadgets like this phone, an Acer Ferrari PC or PC screen ... these licensed products are there for people dreaming of ever having a Ferrari car (yes, it IS the best car in the world !)
-do I - as other Ferrari owners/drivers have a Vertu mobile ?
NO ! We know what is good, we know what is cool, we own iPhones !!!!

obviously you don't need to be filthy rich to buy a Porsche Carrera Turbo !?!? wtf?
nezzr.v0 @ Dec 20th 2007 9:17AM
I would consider both of those cars out of reach for most people... But it's typical for people that own a vehicle like that to be out of touch with what it means to NOT be able to afford something like that.

the phone looks uber beautiful
i wish i was a filthy rich !

Also, if you look around at most people that actually like cars and don't try to flaunt their money for the sake of flaunting (i.e. most people not in Hollywood.. take Formula 1 for instance) most of them have quite the average cell phone because they just need it to work, take a few falls here or there, and be pretty easy to tote around.
I agree with the above poster, with specialized skills in different markets around the world, owning a NEW ferrari is not a tough stretch of the imagination. With medium skills in most markets, owning a used ferrari is not a tough stretch of the imagination.
Now if you are currently living above your means, then yes a ferrari, porsche, or any of those might seem like an impossible dream.

I don't think this phone is meant for Ferrari *owners*. It's meant for Ferrari *want to be owners*. Big difference.
TuxedoBond @ Jan 5th 2008 12:39AM
*sigh*
Maybe the fancy Ferrari and gasoline ate up all your money, and you therefore have to buy a cheap phone.
