Can someone tell me how this phone compares to the T-Mobile Sidekick?
Sidekick is only $60/mo for basic voice, and unlimited internet(real web browsing)/IM/txt.
Seems like VZW charges $15/mo for VCAST, which is only mobile web, and you still need a txt package to do txtmsgs and IM... so it's a lot more expensive monthly.

Oh I am sure it's the 27th. It's also got 2.0 megapixel camera with lens cover (vs 1.3 and no lens cover for 9800), supports bluetooth 1.2 with stereo support (vs 1.1 and no stereo support for 9800). It will also have a longer battery life. The price is unreal, $150 with 2 yr contract, you can't beat that!

Worth mentioning is that the vx9900 (enV? Seriously, why?) will support more bluetooth profiles than any other VZW handset out there, including "file transfer", "Audio Video Remote Control Profile", and "Human Interface Device Profile", among others. We'll see if "file transfer" includes full OBEX, but it's a good start.

This isn't technically a PDA/Smartphone, so it doesn't support a full web browser, just Verizon's "Mobile Web 2.0" which used the EV-DO signal (or if not available it will use the 1X-RTT but it's slower) which is more widely availble than looking for WiFi hotspots.

Who cares about this phone? Isnt this the SAME phone they launched a year or so ago, with just a few extra features. They been promoting and holding off on release for months already, so much infact that the phone lost its core target demographic, and those customers moved to T-Mobile.
Sorry Verizon, ditch the Pantech, LG, and Audiovox and start REALLY competing against something.

It's got a decent feature set - just add in Windows Smartphone as the OS and WiFi and I would gladly pay double the quoted price. Internal screen could also be a bit bigger. I want a Nokia 9500 with Windows Mobile and 3G service. Why won't anyone make one? The exposed keyboard smartphones (Treo, Q, Dash, Blackjack) are to wide and ugly.

Comparatively? The enV BLOWS the Sidekick from T-Mobile out of the water by a long shot! Gather around, boys and girls, as I tell you the tale from when enV ruled the Verizon world! =)
2.0 MP camera, Bluetooth capabilites extending to A2DP, DUN, OBEX for limited file transfer (don't quote me yet...), and vCard transfer, PIX/FLIX messaging capable, Mobile Web/V Cast, Wireless Sync, IM, Email outside of the Mobile Web, and etc.
This is your feature-intensive phone that's just short of being a PDA (hence why there is no Wi-Fi). Honestly though? Why would you need Wi-Fi? Your EV-DO takes care of the connection to the Net without the functionality built-in. If you need it, stem to the XV6700 PDA.
I don't have an official release date as I don't hear until it actually comes out, but it appears Engadget knows what they're talking about. And finally? PRICE! Who's going to pay $349.99 for a network that stems as low as T-Mobile's does? No HSDPA/UTMS in my area and EV-DO covering almost 2/3 of the population come 01/07? Yeeeah, no brainer lol.

Hate to break it to you, but outside of Pantech, LG, and Audiovox, there aren't many players in the CDMA game. Other than those three it's pretty much Samsung and Motorola, both of whom have been hit and miss with their CDMA offerings. And to my knowledge, VZW hasn't publically promoted this phone at all. Unlike the ad campaign for the Chocolate, there hasn't really been anything for the EnV, outside of message room fodder.

I totally cannot wait for this phone to come out. I've been reading on this thing forever but still unclear about certain things. Are you able to create your own theme or just select a theme in general for this phone? Does the AIM and stuff charge by text still? Is the integrated GPS charged for VZNav?

don't know about "themes" or the GPS/VZNav questions you have but...
unfortunately IMs do count as text messages and max you can get is 2500/mo for $20. (they should give us unlimited for $20/mo, c'mon!)
